Dental disease doesn't stay in the mouth. 🫀 Here's why it matters so much:

Bacteria from infected gums enter the bloodstream every time your pet chews or swallows. These bacteria can lodge in the heart, causing valve damage and heart disease. They can affect the kidneys, leading to chronic kidney disease. The liver can also be impacted.

We regularly see bloodwork changes improve after dental cleanings. Heart murmurs sometimes get better when oral infections are treated. This isn't just about teeth looking nice. It's about preventing serious, life-threatening disease.

Investing in dental care now can prevent expensive health problems later.

You don't have to be perfect at home dental care. Something is better than nothing! 🪥

If you've never brushed your pet's teeth, start here:

- Week 1: Let them lick pet toothpaste off your finger. Get them used to the taste.
- Week 2: Rub the toothpaste on their front teeth with your finger. Just a few seconds.
- Week 3: Try a finger brush or gauze wrapped around your finger.
- Week 4: Introduce a pet toothbrush for short sessions.

Go at your pet's pace. Some never tolerate brushing, and that's okay. Dental chews, water additives, and special diets can help too.

The goal is progress, not perfection. We can demonstrate techniques during your next visit!

Ever wonder what actually happens during a dental cleaning? Let's walk through it. 🩺

Your pet is safely anesthetized so we can do a thorough job without stress or pain. We examine every tooth and check for problems below the gum line. Ultrasonic scaling removes tartar from all tooth surfaces, including under the gums where disease starts. We polish teeth to smooth surfaces and slow future buildup. We take dental X-rays to check tooth roots and surrounding bone. Any damaged or infected teeth are addressed.

Anesthesia concerns are valid, but it's the only way to properly clean and examine teeth. We use modern, safe protocols with monitoring throughout.

Pets hide pain well. Here's what dental disease actually looks like:

- Bad breath that smells rotten or unusual.
- Dropping food while eating or chewing on one side.
- Pawing at their mouth or face.
- Drooling more than normal.
- Yellow or brown buildup on teeth.
- Red, swollen, or bleeding gums.
- Acting withdrawn or less playful.
- Not wanting their face touched.

Cats are especially good at hiding dental pain. They might just eat softer food or eat less without showing obvious signs of discomfort.

If you're seeing any of these, your pet needs a dental exam. Don't wait until they stop eating completely. 😟

February is Pet Dental Health Month, and we're talking teeth all month long! 🦷

Why the focus on dental health? Because by age three, most dogs and cats already have dental disease. That's not just bad breath. It's painful infections, tooth loss, and bacteria spreading to vital organs.

The good news? Dental disease is preventable and it’s never too late to start focusing on oral health. Professional cleanings remove the tartar buildup that causes problems. Regular care at home helps maintain healthy teeth between visits.

This month, we'll share tips for at-home care, signs of dental problems, and why professional cleanings matter. Let's get those pearly whites shining!
