Today we recognize National Funeral Director’s Day and are taking a moment to honor the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of funeral directors everywhere.
Funeral service is more than a profession. It is a calling. As funeral directors, we walk beside families during some of life’s most difficult moments. We stand by them, offering guidance, comfort, and care when it is needed most.
At Galante Funeral Home, we are proud to carry on our tradition of service that began in 1934 with our first generation funeral directress Elvira I. Galante. Her strength and determination helped shape the Galante legacy of compassion and community care.
Today, we thank not only our colleagues, but all of the families that we serve for allowing us to do what we do best, guiding them through their grief with dignity, respect, and heart.
We look forward to our future, continuing our legacy, and to see what lies ahead for us.

This Women’s History Month, we honor the very woman who started it all: Elvira I. Galante.
In 1934, after the death of her husband, Elvira became a licensed funeral director and opened the first Galante Funeral Home in the Ironbound section of Newark. As a single mother and widow at just 29 years old, she worked tirelessly. During the day she could be found assisting a funeral director and at night she would be working in a store to support her children all while completing mortuary school.
Through perseverance and deep commitment to herself and her children, Elvira built a business that grew into today's fourth-generation family legacy of service.
Today, we proudly continue her legacy of women in funeral service. There are four ladies on our team, licensed funeral directors Brenda Galante, Sara Galante and Dana Testa , and registered intern Isabela Pereira.
Elvira's strength, compassion, and determination continue to inspire us every day, and we are proud to make you proud, Elvira.

Please join us in wishing our very own Frances V. Galante a very happy 100th birthday today, February 11th! This past Saturday at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, we had the opportunity to celebrate this milestone, a remarkable century of life, love, and memories. Thank you Hollywood Florist for the beautiful flowers, you really went above and beyond!
Frances is surrounded by her loving family: three children, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), along with three daughter-in-laws, four granddaughter-in-laws, two grandson-in-laws, and countless nieces and nephews.

This past Saturday, December 6th, we once again had the honor of holding our annual Tree of Remembrance gathering.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. Your presence brought warmth, reflection, and a sense of togetherness.

For those who could not attend, please know you were in our thoughts. As we move through this holiday season, remember that grief is personal, but never walked alone. You are part of our family, and we are here for you.

May the memories of your loved ones bring comfort, and may you experience peace in the days ahead.

The Galante Funeral Home family warmly invites you to our Annual Tree of Remembrance, a special gathering for all who are grieving the loss of a loved one. This event provides a comforting space to come together, honor those we’ve lost, and find support during the holiday season. A reception with refreshments will follow in our hospitality room.
The ceremony will be held at our Union location, 2800 Morris Avenue, on Saturday, December 6th at 2:00 PM.

Kindly include your family name, the name of the loved one being remembered, and the number of attendees. We are also welcoming emailed photographs to be included in our remembrance slideshow.
