🚨 Bacteria in Well Water: What You Can’t See Can Hurt You 🚨
If you’re on a private well, it’s important to know that coliform and E. coli bacteria can get into your water without any warning signs. You can’t see it. You can’t smell it. You can’t taste it. That’s why routine testing is your best protection.

🌱 How do bacteria get in?
Even a small opening in your well cap, cracked casing, flooding, or pests like ants and mice can introduce bacteria into your water supply. Once it’s in there, every tap in your home is affected.

🧪 Why testing matters:
Bacterial contamination is one of the most common issues found in private wells—and it often goes unnoticed until someone gets sick. Regular testing helps you catch problems early and keep your family safe.

🔍 What we do:
At Franklin County Lab, we provide state-certified coliform and E. coli testing, fast results, and guidance on what steps to take if your water comes back positive. Whether you need resampling, system shock chlorination, or further troubleshooting, we’re here to help from start to finish.

💧 Keep your family safe. Stay ahead of contamination.
👉 Call 636.583.9288 or message us today to schedule your bacteria test. We’re always happy to answer questions and guide you through the process.

Did you know that if you're on a private well, you are responsible for making sure your water is safe to drink?

Many homeowners don’t realize how easily a well can become contaminated. Something as simple as a loose or damaged well cap can allow ants, insects, and even small animals to get inside—bringing bacteria and other contaminants with them.

✔️ A properly sealed well cap is your first line of defense.
✔️ Regular water testing helps catch problems early.

🚿 Does Your Water Smell Like Rotten Eggs? Here’s What You Need to Know! 🥚💨

If you’re noticing a “rotten egg” smell in your drinking water, don’t panic! This odor is typically caused by sulfur bacteria or hydrogen sulfide gas in your water.

👨‍🔧 Possible Causes & Easy Fixes:

✅ Water Heater: The smell may be coming from your water heater’s anode rod, which can be replaced easily to solve the problem.

✅ Your Well: Sometimes, the odor is coming directly from your well water. A well chlorination can often take care of the issue.

✅ Persistent Issues: If the smell keeps coming back, you may need to consider adding a sulfur filter to your home.

Having trouble figuring out the source? We’re always happy to help answer questions about your water quality and guide you on next steps to keep your water clean and safe for your family.
