We love our Cancer Lifeline Volunteers!
A note from one of our wonderful volunteers, Vince Cacanindin :
What an incredible day, and thank you, Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society (PSONS), for the 46th Annual PSONS Symposium in Lynnwood, WA. As volunteers with CancerLifeline.org, Shavon and I connected with PSONS dedicated oncology nurses and leaders from across the Pacific Northwest to promote our emotional support, education, and practical resources for people living with cancer, their families, and caregivers. These professionally-led programs and confidential services aim to foster hope, resilience, and connection throughout the cancer journey.
It is estimated that in 2024, cancer remains the second-leading cause of death (619,812) in the United States, following heart disease (683,037). Deaths will be attributed to Lung, Colorectal, and Pancreatic Cancer, ranked in order, respectively, and new cases attributed to Breast, Prostate, and Lung Cancers, also ranked respectively (2025 estimates). It is significant to note that 2024 was the first year that the U.S. was expected to see cancer cases top 2 million, with 2025 continuing that upward trend in total diagnoses.
Thanks again for creating a space for Shavon and me to share challenges, celebrate wins, and be inspired by the critical work you do. Additionally, a huge shout-out to everyone who stopped by our CancerLifeline.org table! I felt the collective passion of the oncology nursing community, who are among the leaders in cancer care! 🥂
