We love our Cancer Lifeline Volunteers!

A note from one of our wonderful volunteers, Vince Cacanindin :

What an incredible day, and thank you, Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society (PSONS), for the 46th Annual PSONS Symposium in Lynnwood, WA. As volunteers with CancerLifeline.org, Shavon and I connected with PSONS dedicated oncology nurses and leaders from across the Pacific Northwest to promote our emotional support, education, and practical resources for people living with cancer, their families, and caregivers. These professionally-led programs and confidential services aim to foster hope, resilience, and connection throughout the cancer journey.

It is estimated that in 2024, cancer remains the second-leading cause of death (619,812) in the United States, following heart disease (683,037). Deaths will be attributed to Lung, Colorectal, and Pancreatic Cancer, ranked in order, respectively, and new cases attributed to Breast, Prostate, and Lung Cancers, also ranked respectively (2025 estimates). It is significant to note that 2024 was the first year that the U.S. was expected to see cancer cases top 2 million, with 2025 continuing that upward trend in total diagnoses.

Thanks again for creating a space for Shavon and me to share challenges, celebrate wins, and be inspired by the critical work you do. Additionally, a huge shout-out to everyone who stopped by our CancerLifeline.org table! I felt the collective passion of the oncology nursing community, who are among the leaders in cancer care! 🥂

Live in Federal Way and currently in cancer treatment?

Cancer Lifeline has a special pool of support set aside just for you.
We know cancer brings enough stress on its own—adding financial strain for travel, daily needs, and self-care can feel overwhelming.

Our Patient Financial Assistance Fund exists to help lighten that load.

If you:
- are actively in cancer treatment,
- live in the city of Federal Way, and
- have a household income at or below 225% of the Federal Poverty Level (for example, $67,500 for a family of four)

You may be eligible for a $450 financial gift. Applications are being accepted until early December.

To learn more, call 1.800.255.5505 and speak with one of our caring Lifeline volunteers. Volunteers are available Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM. You can leave a message 24 hours a day, and mention that you are a resident of Federal Way.

Let us help keep the light of hope on this season.

Spaces available for our upcoming 3-Day Cancer Retreat, October 14-16, Tuesday to Thursday, in Federal Way, WA, on the shores of Dumas Bay.

The Archbishop Brunett Retreat Center at the Palisades may be just a few minutes away from I-5, in the heart of urban Puget Sound, but nestled in the middle of a 39-acre property, it is a world away from the noise of daily life.

This retreat is for those who have had a cancer diagnosis and their loved ones. In an intimate group setting, on a beautiful campus surrounded by natural beauty, you will connect with others on the journey and begin, or deepen, your process of integrating your cancer experience.

Anyone who has had a life-altering/threatening illness knows that one of the most significant hurdles is making sense of the experience and how to weave that experience into the greater meaning of your life. Connect with yourself and others under the guidance of expert facilitators, who will help you live more consciously and wholly into every precious day.

Learn mindfulness, meditation, creative expression, and gentle movement practices. Enjoy wholesome, home-style meals in a space where everything has been thought of to help you relax and feel at home.

This retreat is valued at $ 1,200 per person, but due to the generosity of our donors, we can offer it for the base price of the overnight accommodations and meal package:
$326 (Double Occupancy)
$366 (Single Occupancy)

This retreat includes two nights of lodging and 7 meals. All rooms have a private bath.

Scholarships are available for those in need, to reduce the cost to as little as $55 per person.
