Celebrating Black History Month by uplifting stories that help kids feel seen ⭐️
Aku, the Pr***en by Micah Johnson is more than a children’s book. The story inside is a powerful reminder of imagination, identity, and possibility. Aku dreams of going to space, and along the way he shows kids that their hopes are valid, their feelings matter, and they belong exactly as they are.
In therapy, representation matters. When children see characters who look like them dreaming big, navigating emotions, and believing in themselves, it strengthens self-worth and expands what feels possible. Stories like this create space for conversations about confidence, resilience, and self-expression.
This month (and every month), we celebrate Black creators, Black stories, and the power of helping children see themselves as capable, worthy, and limitless. 🤎
