๐Ÿ’พ Flashback to a Time of Chunky Monitors and Whirring Modems!

While the technology at Women in Charge has evolved since these photos were taken, our core mission to empower women through education remains constant.

And guess what else remains constant? The need for basic, essential supplies to make that mission a reality!

From current textbooks to pens, from art supplies for our children's program to paper towels for the office โ€“ these everyday items are the backbone of our programs, then and now.

Help us equip today's students with the tools they need to succeed!

We've launched Amazon Wish Lists that let you directly purchase the items needed for our programs. It's a wonderful, concrete way to support our day-to-day operations and directly impact a woman's journey toward her diploma.

Please note: We are currently building these lists, so new items will be added regularly as needs arise! We encourage you to check back often.

You can find all the links on our website: ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://womenincharge.org/amazon-wish-lists/

Thank you for being a constant source of support for Women in Charge!

Last week, our students and staff had an incredible time participating in a therapeutic horticulture workshop at the Missouri Botanical Garden! We loved how this experience allowed our students to nurture their whole selves, not just their minds. ๐Ÿ’š

The Missouri Botanical Garden's Therapeutic Horticulture Programs use plants and gardening activities to help improve the body, mind, and spirit. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to deepen their connection with nature and learn about the diversity of the natural world.

We believe in providing these kinds of enriching experiences that support our students' well-being. By purchasing tickets to our upcoming Fall Fundraiser, you can help us continue offering these valuable programs.

Join us on Saturday, October 4th, from 7โ€“10 pm at TechArtista UCity for a night of fun and fundraising! You can get your tickets here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/women-in-charge-silent-auction--2025

Help a woman get her HiSET and change her life! ๐Ÿค

We are looking for dedicated HiSET tutors to provide one-on-one support to our students. The best part? This is a remote opportunity, and we're specifically seeking tutors who are available in the late afternoons and early evenings (4 PM - 8 PM).

As a volunteer, you'll commit to one 90-minute session per week, working with a student on core subjects like Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

Your guidance can make all the difference, helping our students gain confidence and a path to a brighter future.

Happy Labor Day weekend! Our office will be closed on Monday, September 1st, in observance of the holiday. We'll be back to regular hours on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Labor Day is a celebration of the American worker, recognizing the social and economic achievements of laborers who have contributed to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

We believe this is a powerful day to reflect on our mission here at Women in Charge. Our students are working every day to build confidence, gain an education, and create a better life for themselves and their children. They are a testament to the power of hard work, and we couldn't be prouder to support them on their journey.

We hope you have a safe and restful long weekend!

Celebrating a milestone for an amazing organization! We had the honor of joining other local nonprofit leaders to celebrate 60 years of Head Start programming in the St. Louis area.

Head Start is a vital resource for families, providing quality early childhood education and leveling the playing field for children in underserved communities. Leaders from organizations like YWCA Metro St. Louis, Youth in Need, Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, and Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation all highlighted the program's impact, not just on children, but on the entire community.

We're proud to support organizations that provide safe, reliable, and high-quality childcare, which helps parents and strengthens our local economy. Here's to 60 more years of Head Start!

๐ŸšŒ Field trips (e.g., local museums, nature centers, historical sites)

Our Story

At Women In Charge, we give women the tools they need to succeed in all walks of life. Women In Charge offers classroom instruction in small groups and with one-on-one tutoring. Most of the classes are individualized, allowing each woman to progress at her own speed. Women In Charge is a HiSet site affiliated with the University City School District. HiSET stands for High School Equivalency Testโ€ and shows that the recipient has the same academic achievement as a typical high school graduate. The HiSet exam consists of five tests in Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Arts Writing, and Language Arts Reading. To pass the HiSet test, a score of a minimum of 8 on each test, and a total score of 45 is needed. A total score of 45 is required to pass the test.

Math

Our Math Program is designed to help each individual progress at her own pace. After taking the initial math test, each woman sits down with the Math teacher and evaluates her strengths and weaknesses. Many women have a โ€˜math phobiaโ€™ and are frightened or embarrassed to discuss challenges they may have in mathematics. Our program works one on one with each woman to help build confidence and apply math skills to their everyday lives. We work on improvement by building skills in communication, reasoning, and problem-solving.
