Puffin Innovations

Puffin Innovations The portable, wireless, hands-free solution that works with your mobile phone, tablet, laptop, and d

Puffin is the brainchild of Adriana Mallozzi, brought to fruition by a team of talented MIT students (Edward Burnell, Esther Jang, Kate Tatar, and Shirlene Liew) at the 2015 AT Hackathon. People with physical disabilities often cannot access computers and mobile devices because mice, keyboards, touch screens and other conventional interfaces require fast and accurate hand motions. There are some alternatives, however, what’s currently on the market is expensive, immobile, and unconfigurable. With the Puffin, we’re trying to make assistive technology that fits itself to the user, instead of the other way around. We want Puffin to work in every place and way that people do, providing them with the same level of access to computers and mobile devices that many take for granted. Puffin is a sip-and-puff joystick that is affordable, portable, and durable. And we want to see how far we can go towards making interfaces tailored to people’s abilities. We think this approach will work even outside those differences commonly labeled as “disabilities.”

HollarHype CEO, Emily Zaccardi, and Puffin Innovations Founder/CEO, Adriana Mallozzi—both tech founders from Boston, MA—teamed up on a shared belief that solutions focusing on accessibility, inclusivity, and mental health are imperative for the desired outcome: a more connected world.

They've recently founded Quirk LAABS (along with 2 others), a non-profit empowering entrepreneurs and creators with disabilities through powerful connection solutions like hollarhype, a voice-based emotional support tool.

Together, they are ready to share their vision with the world, starting with the SXSW virtual stage.

Finalists will be chosen in part based on crowdsourced popularity, so please take a moment to UP-VOTE this submission by FRIDAY, NOV. 20th @ 11:59pm PST if you'd like to see emotional support and diversity inclusion addressed at SXSW (or if you'd like these innovators to gain incredibly helpful exposure to accelerate their work!). https://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/110960

**Please consider SHARING this with people in your network, especially disability or mental health advocates. Our work is a cumulation of the efforts of many who focus on these disciplines and we will be glad to represent just that through collective support.
