K’imaw Behavioral Health Native Connections

K’ima:w Behavioral Health Native Connections grant is a five year grant aimed on preventing su***de and substance use in local youth and young adults. To date we have have conducted over 200 surveys, held two sessions of Swimming Lessons at the NF pool, held a Coyote Run up to the top of Bald Mountain, held 4 cultural classes, trained over 60 Tribal Education, KTJUSD, and K’ima:w staff on SafeTALK and 30 community members on Su***de Talk, 30 community members trained in QPR, and have begun our Equine Assisted Learning Project, Music Lessons at Captain John HS, and are gearing up for an Elementary School After School Cultural Project this fall. We have also supported our Behavioral Health counselor with trainings and tools for use in their sessions. We are working hard to de-stigmatize su***de and educate the community how to recognize and talk to a loved one who is experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts.
