This week I feel the Desire to commune with my ancestors,
It’s in my bones
It’s in my belly
My body craves relationship with them, nourishment.
I see myself at a big table with them and all their favorites.
I’ve learned that’s homemade bread and milk for Grandpa Leo,
Beef and vegetable soup for Grandma Lillie
Pie for Grandpa Bob
And a Coke for Grandma Trenna

That last one always makes me smile.
Anyone who spends some time with me will witness my intimate Dr Pepper relationship. (Which is a very taboo thing to admit as a spiritual hippie)
But something about my petite fiery grandma owning her love for the fizzy stuff just makes me feel loved and seen.

So I’m gathering food and pictures and offerings for the alter. As I feed them, I feed myself. As I meditate and pray with them, I feel their love and support. We are in relationship. We mutually nurture each other.

What does it even mean?
Where is it?
Why do so many of us seem to be seeking it?
Where is it?
Can it be lost?
Can it be found?
Perhaps it’s here, just here,
You know that spot.
That spot there, in the center of your chest.
In the center of my chest.
I wonder if sometimes I recognize yours more than I can my own?
That’s why I scrape, and compete, and fight, and yell, and war?
What if instead of fighting me back, you held my arms open and touched that spot?
And we both remembered together?
And then I turned and repeated

There it is!

It can’t.
And we remembered together.
