A lot of people walk into a gym wanting to feel better, get stronger, lose weight, or simply improve their health but many are left trying to piece everything together on their own.

Some are ๐ฎ๐ง๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐ก๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฌ in a way that actually builds muscle or supports fat loss.

One reason we utilize corrective exercise in our programs is because the body is very good at finding ways around limitations.

In corrective exercise, this is called ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฑ๐ข๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ.

Relative flexibility means the body will choose the path of least resistance when one joint or muscle does not have the mobility or control needed to perform a movement correctly.

In simple terms, if one area cannot move well, the body compensates somewhere else, so the movement still happens.

๐€ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง ๐ž๐ฑ๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ช๐ฎ๐š๐ญ.

Some people are taught to squat with their feet turned out, but often that position is compensating for the fact that they do not currently have the mobility to squat well with their feet straight.

Many people assume that turning the feet out or taking a wider stance is simply better squat technique, when often it is the body working around a mobility restriction.

Most people have tight calves and limited dorsiflexion at the ankle.

๐ƒ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฑ๐ข๐จ๐ง is the ability of the knee to move forward over the foot while keeping the heel down.

When that motion is limited, proper squat depth becomes difficult without compensation.

๐’๐จ, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐›๐จ๐๐ฒ ๐š๐๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ.

The feet externally rotate.
The stance widens.
Less dorsiflexion is required at the ankle.

That makes the squat easier to perform, but it does not solve the actual problem.

It simply allows the movement to happen around the restriction.

This is exactly why ๐œ๐จ๐ซ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ž๐ฑ๐ž๐ซ๐œ๐ข๐ฌ๐ž ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ.

Instead of always changing movement to match dysfunction, we work to improve the limitation itself.

That may include calf flexibility, ankle mobility work, activation of stabilizing muscles, and teaching better movement patterns.

Because the goal is not just to complete the exercise.

The goal is to move well without unnecessary compensation.

Sometimes what feels natural is actually the body finding a shortcut around something that needs attention.

And if that limitation is never addressed, it often shows up later in performance, joint stress, or pain.
