🌿 Sunshine, Fresh Air & Happy Minds 🌿

Spending time outside isn’t just fun for kids—it’s great for their mental health too!

Whether it’s riding bikes, playing at the park, or simply exploring nature, outdoor time helps kids:
☀️ Boost their mood and reduce stress
🌈 Improve focus and creativity
💪 Build confidence and independence
🧠 Support overall emotional well-being

Even a little time outside each day can make a big difference. So grab some sneakers, head outdoors, and let kids be kids—laughing, playing, and growing in the fresh air 💚

April 19th-25th is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW).
NCVRW is an annual observance led by the Office for Victims of Crime to honor crime victims and highlight the rights and resources available to them. It raises awareness about victim support services, promotes justice and healing, and encourages communities to stand with survivors of all types of crime, including sexual assault and child abuse.

If you or someone you know is the victim of a crime and would like more information about the resources available, please check out this website https://victimconnect.org/

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, it’s important to take care of yourself, too. Supporting others and learning about difficult topics can be heavy.

Today, give yourself permission to:
-Take a break when you need it
-Step away from social media
-Spend time doing something you enjoy
-Breathe, rest, and reset

Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s necessary.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, support is available through resources like RAINN.

You can’t pour from an empty cup—take care of you.

Next week, we invite you to join us for our “What Were You Wearing?” Exhibit — a powerful and thought-provoking experience that challenges harmful myths about sexual violence and victim-blaming.

This exhibit shares real stories from survivors alongside recreations of what they were wearing at the time of their assault. The message is clear: clothing does not cause assault — people do.

Come stand with us in support of survivors, raise awareness, and be part of a community committed to change.

The exhibit will be open 20th-24th at Cayuga Community College during school hours. The exhibit will be located in the lounge just off the main lobby to the left when you enter the building.

Together, we can shift the conversation, promote understanding, and support healing. We hope to see you there.

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, it’s important to understand how trauma can affect the brain—especially for children and teens.

Trauma can impact:
Memory and concentration
Emotional regulation
Sense of safety and trust
How the brain responds to stress

The brain is constantly trying to protect itself, which is why some reactions may seem confusing—but they are often survival responses.

Healing is possible. With support, safety, and understanding, the brain can begin to recover and build new pathways.

Through our Haven and SAVAR programs, we offer trauma-focused therapy services to support survivors on their healing journey. To register, please contact Sam at (315)253-9795 x 302

For more information, visit the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. https://nctsn.org/

Understanding trauma helps us respond with compassion, not judgment.

💬 The Importance of Positive Relationships 🌿

Positive relationships play a powerful role in our mental, emotional, and social well-being. Whether with family, friends, peers, or mentors, healthy connections help us feel supported, valued, and understood.

🌱 Why they matter:
✨ Provide emotional support during stressful times
✨ Help build confidence and self-esteem
✨ Encourage healthy communication and boundaries
✨ Promote a sense of belonging and connection
✨ Create safe spaces to grow and be yourself

🌼 What healthy relationships look like:
💚 Mutual respect and trust
💬 Open and honest communication
🤝 Listening and supporting one another
🌿 Encouraging each other’s growth
⚖️ Respecting boundaries

Surrounding yourself with positive influences can make a meaningful difference in your overall well-being. Take time to nurture the relationships that uplift and support you—and be that positive presence for others too.

If you or anyone you know needs or wants services or supports please call the office at 315-253-9795

As we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, it’s important to remember that safety includes online spaces, too.

Support safe online habits by focusing on:
-Keeping personal information private
-Thinking before posting or sharing
-Recognizing unsafe or uncomfortable interactions
-Telling a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right

Creating safe online spaces starts with awareness, communication, and trust—key parts of prevention.
