Recently, I obtained a Graduate Certificate in Narrative Healthcare from Lenoir-Rhyne University. Narrative Medicine applies narrative theory to the context of clinical care. Narrative Medicine prepares practitioners with enhanced skills in listening to patient and client histories and stories and cultivates more profound attention to the meaning of illness and struggle beyond diagnosis. In addition, the Narrative Healthcare Graduate Certificate program introduced me to aesthetics-based methodologies, which help build empathy, communication, better care, and mindfulness.
"For all the science that underpins clinical practice, practitioners and patients make sense of the world by way of stories.”

Chronic Pain Reset's most recent blog post as part of the Biopsychosocial series is titled "Narrative Medicine and Chronic Pain"
https://chronicpainreset.org/blogs/narrative-medicine-and-chronic-pain/
"Narrative medicine is a movement in medical humanities now being taught in a growing number of medical schools and healthcare settings to assist physicians in acquiring what they call “narrative competence”; the competence to incorporate a patient's whole story in the assessment and treatment of their illness and introduce the physician to an aesthetic of being a part of that patient’s story toward recovery and healing. The lessons of narrative medicine align with the principles of biopsychosocial care and could play an important role in shifting the pain management culture during this transitional period."

Chronic Pain Reset Blog/Biopsychosocial Care Series-Part III:
"Biopsychosocial Care: A Public Health National Strategy"

"...Pain is the most common reason people seek medical care, and chronic pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide. A national public health strategy is needed to establish an alliance of physicians, therapists, and care managers trained in and committed to a biopsychosocial culture of care management for those suffering from chronic pain..."

Check out the new Chronic Pain Reset Blog post, "Chronic Pain and the Mind-Body Connection in a Biomedical World"; a part of the Biopsychosocial Care Series.

"...the story of Collette reminds us that it can be difficult for chronic pain sufferers to accept a biopsychosocial care management approach when they have been a participant in a biomedical healthcare culture grounded in mind-body dualism."

Chronic Pain Reset Blog: "How Did We Get Here"

(Biopsychosocial Care Series-Part I)

Welcome to our inaugural blog post devoted to the care of those suffering from chronic pain. The Chronic Pain Reset Blog is committed to advocating for the biopsychosocial model of care for chronic pain.

Chronic Pain Reset/The Biopsychosocial Alliance is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to promoting meaningful change for millions of people who suffer from chronic pain. We are committed to actively developing and executing national and international health care strategies that support a biopsychosocial model of care for chronic pain.

An estimated 20% of adults suffer from chronic pain (50 million people), with 8% of adults experiencing high impact chronic pain, severely interrupting all domains of their life (work, family life, self-care, community activities, etc.) Chronic pain is the No. 1 cause of disability and disease burden globally. This is not only a health care epidemic but also a crisis of human suffering.

Please look for the Chronic Pain Reset Blog, where we will discuss topics such as advances in neuroscience that validate the mind-body connection for the treatment of chronic pain; chronic pain and healthcare disparity/social injustice; technology-assisted care; and the importance of narrative healthcare to help serve the whole person suffering from chronic pain.
