Montana Abortion Access Program Montana’s Statewide Abortion Fund The Montana Abortion Access Program (MAAP) is Montana's state-wide abortion fund.

MAAP protects and fosters reproductive autonomy by providing access to abortion care through financial, logistical, and emotional support. MAAP works with folks facing barriers to accessing abortion care, including both Montanans and folks seeking abortion care in Montana. We offer financial, practical (covering the costs of travel, lodging, food, and/or childcare), and emotional support to our clients. We trust our clients to know their bodies and needs best. We are a Montana-based nonprofit and affiliate of the National Network of Abortion Funds.

Abortion care doesn’t slow down. And neither do we.

As of December 19, MAAP has already pledged $31,750 to support 74 clients this month: that’s nearly 300% more than December last year. We keep breaking our own records for funding pledged and clients served.

Your end-of-year, tax-deductible gift helps cover costs for Montanans, and helps us prepare for what’s ahead in 2026.

Give by December 31 and keep abortion access on the map in Montana. 💜

The Changing Landscape of Access

Over the last few weeks, three new reports have come out that help paint a clearer picture of how abortion access is shifting across the country.

WeCount, a project of the Society for Family Planning that tracks abortions nationwide, released new data for the first half of the year. They found that not only are more people getting abortions, but a growing share are happening through telehealth. Here in Montana, WeCount recorded 1,290 abortions from January through June, which means MAAP supported approximately 24% of everyone who got care in the state during that time.

In November, we received 93 applications and pledged $31,055 to support 78 clients—making it yet another record-breaking month for MAAP.

As we’ve shared in recent updates, much of this surge stems from the fact that Planned Parenthood clinics in Montana can no longer bill Medicaid for any of their services. Before this change, many of the people we support would have had their care fully covered. Now, they’re turning to MAAP for help with the cost of care, as well as travel, time off work, and other logistics associated with accessing it. This shift continues to drive the steady month-over-month increase in requests.

Unfortunately, we don’t expect this trend to slow down anytime soon. But we remain encouraged, and deeply grateful, for the way this community continues to show up for MAAP and the people we serve. We truly couldn’t do this work without you.

In 2023, our clients traveled an average of 445 miles round-trip to get care... ⛽ 🚗

That’s time off work.
Childcare costs.
Gas.
Lodging.

MAAP helps cover those costs, because access shouldn’t depend on zip code. Support your local abortion access fund this giving season. Visit our website, link in bio, or www.mtabortion.org to learn of the various ways you can get involved.

Our Story

The mission of the Susan Wicklund Fund is simple: Provide financial aid to people who need abortion care but cannot afford it. Formerly known as Trust Women Fund, we are a small group of volunteers dedicated to supporting the freedom of choice and loyal to a leader in reproductive health; Dr. Susan Wicklund. From 2009 to 2013 the woman’s health care provider; Mountain Country Women’s Clinic in Livingston, Montana treated local patients traveling far and wide across the State, but also the entire American North West, and even some residents of foreign countries. Women traveled this far because of the open practices of Susan Wicklund; she never turned away a patient in need, was willing to see a woman any hour of the day- seven days a week, and the cost was more affordable at her clinic than any other within the state. With the recent loss of this valuable care due to Dr. Wicklund retiring and the closing of the clinic in Livingston, we hope to carry on the mission to help women in need. We believe as Susan does, that no woman should be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy because of her financial situation.
