She is a graduate of the Rocky Mountain Center of Botanical Medicine and the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine. If you’d like to learn more about medicinal plants, you can connect with Elaine, and Green Path Herb School via the Green Path Website or through social media: Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, or Instagram. You can find out more about Elaine and her life work at GreenPathHerbSchool.com. John Goicovich first started studying plants in the early 90s on the coast of California. It was not until moving to the Rocky Mountains in 1993 that his interest became a lifetime commitment. John’s first love of herbs was always the connection between plants and people and the personal involvement in making one’s own remedies. For the last twenty years, John has worked on deepening that connection, and his favorite thing to do besides making herbal remedies is sharing with others how to make their own medicine. John has owned and operated Meadowsweet Herbs in Missoula for the last 17 years with his wife and herbalist, Elaine. Along with their two boys and dog, they call Montana home.

People need to start making choices that align with life and the planet. Being an herbalist is a great way to do that.

We are seeing unprecedented changes to our planet during our lifetime. This is a potentially heartbreaking and traumatic time for many. Yet there are many exciting and unique opportunities for herbalists to support life on this beautiful planet as the social and environmental meta-crisis escalates.

Herbalists can be land stewards, help connect people to the more-than-human world, and be active in local and national political issues. We can develop bioregional plant knowledge, help build community resilience, and limit the use of pharmaceuticals with herbs when appropriate.

Herbalists can have the joy and peace of mind to fairly easily practice right livelihood, offering our vocation in devoted service of “the more beautiful world that our hearts know is possible”, as Charles Eisenstein writes.

In this article, you’ll learn how herbalists can be:
Land stewards
✨ Bridges to the natural world
✨ Activists
✨ Bioregionally focused
✨ Builders of community resilience
✨ Reduce pharmaceutical use and waste

Want to be and Herbalist?

Imagine you are walking through the forest near your home. As you look around you, you start noticing the plants growing nearby. Imagine knowing each of these plants; understanding how to use them, when to harvest them and which parts to use. Envision being able to make these plants into medicines such as salves, oils, pills, syrups and tinctures. How would it feel to help others use these herbal medicines for healing purposes? These are the skills of an herbalist.

We offer natural health related classes both in person and on line (coming soon!). Our offerings include: Lots of free recipes and information for everyone! See our website! And check out our herbal articles and recipes.
