📊 WHY SOME NATIONS ARE TALLER THAN OTHERS (THE REAL SCIENCE)

The largest height dataset ever collected — 18.6M people across 200 countries — shows a clear pattern:

Genes set the blueprint, but nutrition + infection environment determine the outcome.

1️⃣ Tall populations share the same fundamentals:

• High-quality animal protein (meat, eggs, dairy, fish)
• More childhood calories
• Higher micronutrient density (zinc, iron, iodine, vitamin D, calcium)
• Clean water & lower infection rates
• Better maternal nutrition
• Multi-generational improvements in diet and sanitation

These factors raise IGF-1, improve gut health, support bone growth, and allow kids to reach their genetic height potential.

2️⃣ Short-stature nations struggle with the opposite environment:

• Diets dominated by rice, corn, cassava
• Low animal protein & dairy
• Micronutrient deficiencies
• High gut infections → poor nutrient absorption
• Food insecurity in pregnancy + early childhood

This leads to childhood stunting, which permanently reduces adult height.

3️⃣ Height can shift dramatically within one century.

South Korea, Japan, and Iran all saw 10–20 cm increases after improving diet, sanitation, and maternal health.
Genetics didn’t change — the environment did.

Nutritious, protein-rich, micronutrient-dense environments = taller populations.
Starchy, low-protein diets + high infection burden = shorter populations.

Master Stress with High Intensity, Low Frequency Approach.
The energy we are gifted in response to stress (or challenge) in fitness AND in life is generally more suited to SPIKES in your rather than constant vigilance. Think more like sprints than marathons🏃
Ofcourse, some situations do take time to resolve or can’t be dealt with right now but in those circumstances you’re probably better off letting something be rather than constantly worrying about it. You’ll find yourself much less burnt out and in a better mental space to take life on with a SPRINT approach to challenges 🧘

Rage is probably the most suppressed emotion we generate. But suppression doesn’t get rid of negativity. It actually stores it in the body where it ferments and turns into pain, injuries or some other physical problem.
You don’t need to stop generating rage (or anger, frustration, impatience etc.). You simply need to acknowledge it. Be humble enough to admit you get angry sometimes. It’s not a big deal.
Then the suppression stops and the pain (usually back pain but could be stomach issues, migraines, even skin issues) will slowly diminish.
The most important thing is you DONT THINK OF THE SOURCE OF THE ISSUE AS PHYSICAL. ITS’S MENTAL.
It may sound complex but it’s actually super simple and a total game changer.

In my experience this is the most common “injury” of all.
And yet, more often than not, it is not an “injury”.
It’s a problem of the nervous system caused by a misunderstanding of the body and the pain signal.
Sound confusing?
Fine, but it’s true.

Making a decision is one of the secrets of the pros.
They don’t TRY. They DECIDE.
I see this all the time from people who are destined to fail. It’s hard to put into words but you can hear it in their language. “I’m gonna try” is another way of saying I’m gonna pretend.
On the other hand, people who get the job done tend to have a very different energy about them. It’s almost as though by making that decision, they’ve time travelled into the future and already succeeded.
This may not make sense logically but if you’ve been in the game (any game, not just fitness) you’ll get it.
So RX for today?
Make a decision about what you’re going to do. If it’s something in your control, decide. You’ll k ow you’ve decided when you feel at peace, confident in your body as opposed to frantic and worried (which is “discipline” and “trying”)…

Beyond Fitness was set up to take the stress, confusion and frustration out of fitness, so you can enjoy your body and get on with your life. IT’S POSSIBLE and it’s not hard. What I’ve discovered in my decade plus of fitness coaching is that people generally vacillate between doing nothing at all for their bodies, or doing too much. I’m here to tell you that there is an easier way, a sweet point between extremes.
