Solstice blessings; embracing the pause of darkness often gifts us with the vision to bring forth in the light.
We all have light within, nurture yours, embrace the miracle, dance within light and darkness so you may know your true self.

- A beautiful Blessing from one of my Teachers, Elaine Egidio.

Ginkgo Fire Shamanic Circle has a new home! As of September 2023, we're moving to the James City County Library in Toano,VA, & we'd love to see you there.

Each month, we start with a brief welcome and introductions. Then we, “Open the Circle,” by lighting a candle, singing, and a bit of group drumming in unison.

After that, I’ll introduce the questions I’ll be inviting the group to journey on for the night. They might be connected to the time of year, or to a spiritual theme. Then, we’ll begin our first journey of the evening, with me drumming for the group. A typical journey will last about 10-15 minutes. Then we’ll take some notes on what we experienced, followed by a conversation where you're welcome to share briefly about what you experienced. We strongly emphasize confidentiality, to keep the Circle safe for everyone.

Then, we'll do a second journey on a related topic, followed by another round of conversation and sharing.

Before we close, we spend a few minutes offering shamanic healing to anyone in the Circle who requests it, or anyone else who has given us permission to do healing work for them.

Then, we close the Circle with a brief song. That's it!

If you'd like to explore shamanic journeying in a friendly, supportive environment, you're warmly invited to come and try it out.

We include both beginners and experienced journeyers. Because of this, I ask that you have some basic familiarity with shamanic journeying before your first visit, so that we can all practice together.

How you can learn the basics:

Currently (Fall 2023), I'm putting together a 2-hour introductory workshop to teach people basic shamanic journeying skills. Once we have 10 people interested, we'll go forward. Please contact me if you'd like to participate.

In the meantime, here are three other ways you can learn the basics, right now:

Download a free ebook and turn to the chapter on shamanic journeying. Written by my wife and fellow shamanic practitioner Laura Horton-Ludwig, it's a brief, accessible introduction to journeying that includes a guided drumming track.

Read Sandra Ingerman's book, "Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner's Guide," for a more comprehensive introduction, along with drum tracks so you can practice on your own.

Take one of the excellent basic workshops taught by the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. FSS teaches these workshops both online and in person.

What to bring:

To support you as you journey, please bring:

An eye covering, like a sleep mask or bandanna (blocking out light can help you journey more easily).

A journal or notebook & writing materials for taking notes.

A yoga mat and/or blanket, if you wish to lie down while you journey. Remaining seated in a chair is fine too.

A rattle or drum, if you wish. If you don't have one, that's fine. I always bring a few extras.

Any questions?

I'd be happy to talk with you about any questions you might have. Contact me any time.

As a gift to our local community, I lead this shamanic circle each month. Our focus is on practicing shamanic journeying together, using a drum or rattle.

Circle Tonight at 7pm!

06/10/2021

Hello Shamanic Journey folks--our monthly Circle will meet this Thursday, June 10, 7-8:30 p.m. in person, plus online by request.

For in-person folks, we'll meet at Williamsburg UU, 3051 Ironbound Road (just south of Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School). Please park anywhere you like and come find us outdoors on the covered patio just to the right of the main doors as you approach the building. Please RSVP to me by Thursday noon if you plan on coming. We'll provide chairs--no need to bring your own this time. Everyone needs to be masked and we'll stay distanced. Please bring writing materials to take a few notes, an eye covering, and a drum or rattle if you wish. In case of rain, we'll shift into the gathering hall next to the patio and keep the exterior doors open for ventilation.

Online folks, we are happy to Zoom you into the circle. Just let us know in advance if you'd like that option. Here's the Zoom link if you wish: https://zoom.us/j/616890204?pwd=N09HTUprNE83SVBLZndwSms2YW8vQT09 .

For our focus this month, we'll have some fun with our monthly congregational theme of Play, and we'll honor the summer solstice coming up later this month. As always, if you or someone you know would appreciate some healing, we will create space for that as well. Just make sure to get permission first if you're asking for healing for someone else.

Any questions? Just ask, and John & I hope to see you Thursday night. Take care and be well.

In faith,

Laura

Hi everyone--I hope you're doing well today. Our Shamanic Journey Circle meets this Thursday, March 11, 7-8:30 p.m. and you are most welcome to join in.

We'll meet online only this Thursday, but with Daylight Savings Time almost here & the weather warming up, we have high hopes for a distanced in-person outdoor circle (with Zoom option of course) in April and throughout the spring and summer, weather permitting.

This month, inspired by the WUU congregational theme of Commitment, you'll have the opportunity to Journey on questions like this: What commitments are not serving me well right now? And where should I be committing my energy for the highest good?

If you have any questions, just let me know. As a reminder, please make sure you have a quiet, comfortable spot to join from, and please bring an eye covering, a rattle or drum if you wish, and something to take notes with.

Here's all the Zoom info--hope to see you there!
