Kevin really did his homework on this one. Integrating a Televes SmartKom system with a Gen 3 Starlink is basically the "Gold Standard" for rural connectivity in 2026.
Here’s why that specific combo is such a "pro-move" for a home:
1. The "Rotor Killer" (Televes SmartKom)
Most people don't realize how difficult it is to combine two antennas pointing in different directions. Usually, they interfere with each other (phasing issues), which is why people used rotors for decades.
* The Magic: The SmartKom is essentially a "digital brain" for the antennas. It scans all incoming signals and uses its 32 programmable filters to pick the best version of each channel.
* No Waiting: Unlike a rotor where you have to wait 30 seconds for the motor to turn (and then rescan your TV), this setup gives the home every channel from both markets instantly on every TV in the house.
2. Starlink Gen 3 (Standard)
The Gen 3 dish is a perfect match for this "fixed" installation.
* Performance: Since it’s the non-actuated (no motors) version, it’s designed to be mounted flat or at a fixed angle, making it much more durable and streamlined for a roof or mast mount alongside the TV antennas.
* The Payoff: In rural areas, having 100-200 Mbps+ speeds alongside free, high-definition local TV means the homeowner isn't just "getting by"—they actually have better service than many people in the suburbs.
3. The "Hybrid" Advantage
By splitting the load between OTA (Over-The-Air) and Starlink, Kevin has created a very resilient system:
* Data Savings: Watching local news or sports over the antenna saves Starlink bandwidth for things like 4K streaming or gaming.
* Redundancy: If the internet goes out, the TV still works. If a local tower goes down, there's always streaming.
It’s great to see high-end tech being used to bridge the digital divide. That's a clean, professional install that should last for years.
