I read the other day that a nutritionist I follow drinks a Coke weekly — and I know my filter is different, because I’ve dealt with chronic illness and work with clients who live with unexplainable symptoms... But to me? I thought "hm that's interesting".

Because here’s the thing:

“Everything in moderation” is one of my least favorite sayings.

Because what does that even mean?

Once a week? Once a day? Small amounts multiple times a day?

When I do labs and nutrition reviews, I see just how fast those “little” things add up.

And no — we don’t need to be perfect.
Yes — I eat ice cream, fruit snacks are my favorite.
We go out to eat occasionally. I live in the real world.
But I do those things with discernment.

Because “if it fits your macros” doesn’t account for how food impacts the cellular environment — and whether your body is inflamed, depleted, or energized because of the food you put into it.

We’re not just talking about blood sugar here.

We’re talking about mitochondrial stress.

Oxidative damage.

Whether your cells are being supported… or suffocated.

And the truth is, food doesn’t act in isolation.

It stacks — on top of stress loops, mineral depletion, hormonal chaos, environmental toxins, poor sleep.

So while no, I wouldn’t say one Coke a week causes chronic illness…

It’s a luxury to say that when you don’t have a chronic disease.

The problem is, many “experts” will tell you it’s fine.

That nutrition won’t touch your migraines or your autoimmune flares.

But it can help - a lot.

And often, it does — if you go deep enough.

I didn’t mean to have an attitude earlier. But the truth is that I hit a wall today.

I woke up anxious.
I tried to get help, and everything went sideways.

And I found myself stuck between two impossible choices:

1. Sacrifice my well-being just to “do the things” and make ends meet

2. Or protect my peace and risk nothing getting done

And honestly? I’m just tired.
Not just physically - like soul-tired.

So here’s what I did when it all felt like too much:

I stopped.
I said the truth out loud:
“I’m frustrated. I’m overwhelmed. I don’t want to keep doing this like this.”

I let myself cry and didn’t try to shut it down.
I took a few deep breaths and gave my body a moment to catch up.

I reached out to connect with a few close people - who acknowledged me and gave me encouragement.

And I looked for the lessons. Always looking for the lessons because times like this are when I'm being stretched. And it's UNCOMFORTABLE.

And then I asked:

What’s one thing I can do right now that actually matters?

Not everything. Not the whole list.
Just one thing that's rooted in alignment and not fear.

Because when everything feels urgent…
Coming back to your body IS the strategy.

Chronic stress and hormones do not mix 🙅🏼‍♀️

And I also would add how important movement is, particularly building and maintaining muscle mass (to improve your immune system and helps to release some stress as well).

Imbalances in any of these pillars can increase stress and be part of the root causes behind hormone imbalances.

This is why it can feel so hard and frustrating to balance your hormones.

And, I find most of my clients underestimate how critical the mental/emotional stressors & load + having a nervous system that feels safe is for creating hormone balance and optimal health.

Since we talk about burnout around here so much, boundaries and purpose must be included in this list.

If you don't know where you end and other people begin, and you feel like you take on so many people's emotions, stress and needs... This is a direct pattern that can lead to chronic digestive issues (bloating, constipation), autoimmune disease, migraines, endometriosis, PCOS, fatigue, dizziness, allergies and getting sick all the time.

One of the hardest lessons to learn is what happens when you don't have your health (and then how to heal).

But, when you address the root causes behind hormone imbalances and address each of the pillars for building a health foundation - it IS possible to put many autoimmune diseases in remission, to finally not have chronic pain and painful periods like with endometriosis, to no longer have migraines - and to actually have ENERGY throughout motherhood.

That is transformation on a deep level - when you no longer identify as someone who has ______ and now you KNOW you are healthy.

I cannot tell you how good that feels when you make that transition. And it's so worth all the effort, the frustration, the struggle, the patience to get there.

Mom's are wired to burnout. Expectations and meeting constant needs often leads to overwhelm.

And it's SO common for women/mom's to have thyroid issues, autoimmune disease, gut bloating and symptoms of hormone imbalances.

You know what these all have in common?

Dysregulated nervous system and emotional dysregulation.

In my experience, very few practitioners know how to really help patients with the mind body connection required to create a regulated nervous system AND create emotional regulation.

Research has shown that emotions & repressing emotions can lead to many different health conditions like autoimmune diseases, inflammation, GI/digestion symptoms like bloating, constipation, IBS. And we know that false narratives, beliefs and "high stress" can lead to high cortisol levels and negative thinking patterns that create anxiety, depression and can affect our immune systems.

We also know that repressing emotions can cause problems with our blood sugar, immune system and inflammation, digestion, the flow of lymph and because of all that built up tension and stress - it can lead to toxin build up that can affect our hormones due to waste build up.

All the functional medicine stuff we talk about here on a whole other level.

The biggest thing I did to heal my endometriosis and migraines was to learn how to regulate my nervous system.

The biggest thing I did to address my burnout, overwhelm and approach parenting with more calm and space... Learn how to regulate my nervous system.

I have personally seen this work help many other patients and clients with shoulder injuries, IBS, SIBO, ADHD, eczema and psoriasis, PCOS, anxiety, depression (when they thought nothing would ever work), diverticulosis and more.

And... Create the motherhood that is AUTHENTIC and perfect for them and their family.

Being a mom is hard. Being a mom running a business has had its moments of being even harder.

But the mindset thought shift that helped me when I was starting to feel overwhelmed in my business has ALSO been incredibly helpful in motherhood.

How can I make this more fun?

I dream big and I love to get things done. I love what success feels like. I love achieving big things.

I will never try to change that because I love what that drive allows me to do...

Help more people. I love it when I hear that I do or have created helps people.

Like hearing "I no longer get anxious and completely overtaken when my ex is a jerk when it comes to coparenting"...

Or "My kid hugged me yesterday and said he could see how much work I've been doing, and then he started using the tools I've been modeling when he has been upset"...

Or "I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me that I've been carrying around. It was exhausting. No wonder I felt overwhelmed everyday"...

But as an achiever who tied her self worth to those achievements, when I used to not get things done I would feel completely worthless.

I was also burned out and my immune system showed it. I had daily stress hives and I thought to myself, how on earth can I have kids like this??

I didn't want to parent from that overwhelmed place.

So... I set out to heal. And through that journey I realized that joy and fun had been something I eliminated from my life because I was so overcome with the "doing".

That's when I started asking this question, "how can make this fun?"

And that has served me in business as an entrepreneur and as a mom in so many ways. It's the thought pattern interruption I need to prevent the negative mental spiral that always leads to overwhelm.

We cannot address the immune system without addressing emotions and what's triggering the symptoms and burnout.

Inside the Mindset For Motherhood course I help mom's learn how to process their negative emotions by:

- Clearing stored negative emotions (we know the body remembers and keeps score and is one of the causes of imbalances, inflammation and disease)

- We identify triggers of the patterns of burnout and overstimulation like: if you dismiss the early signals that it's time to take a break because you feel the need to get more done, but you don't rest, and you keep going until you're so overwhelmed and overstimulated we want to focus on what those early signals are AND address the pattern that keeps you doing everything at the expense of your wellbeing.

- We learn what the emotions are trying to tell us. It's not that we never want to experience anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt or shame ever again. These emotions are here to tell us something.

Too many programs are trying to get people to not experience negative emotions. But that's unrealistic AND emotions are a big critical piece of using our intuition.

The problem is when we get triggered, express that emotion (and potentially in a way that we then regret and have to reconcile after), and then remain in a stressed state that it takes a toll.

Or... When we just stuff it down and completely ignore it because it's too painful to feel, that's a problem for your health and well-being too.

Kids are pretty triggering. They mirror back to you many parts of yourself and they know how to push your buttons.

These are all opportunities of areas you can shift and grow through.

And when you take the opportunity to do that you create space in your nervous system which helps get you into a healing state.

When we put this all together it compounds on itself creating more healing.

Your nervous system is a critical root cause if you want to heal for the long term.

I know that many of these chronic conditions are usually seen as things you'll always have and have to learn to manage and live with, but that just wasn't ok with me.

I wasn't going to accept that I'd have to live the rest of my life with endometriosis and migraines that came on whenever I would rest or get a break.

My patients and clients often feel the same way.

Your nervous system (for simplicity's sake) has 2 parts - your sympathetic nervous system is where you're stressed, in fight or flight, freeze or fawn state. I.e. I'm going to run from a lion. You can absolutely live a lot of your life and day here. And it is HARD on your body.

Your blood goes to your muscles. Not your gut. I.e. this makes it really hard for your gut to digest food.

And you have your parasympathetic nervous system - rest, digest, this is where we also are our most creative, have a desire to have sexy time, and can see more possibilities. It's also a healing state.

Most people do not spend enough time here.

Think about it this way. If you're anxious and stressed, overwhelmed and overstimulated - your blood is going to your muscles not your gut. And yet somehow we are doing all the things to heal the gut, but are not focused on getting to the root of the stress.

This can ALSO help you find more inner calm when parenting your kiddos. It can help you with managing overwhelm as a busy mom. It can help you with the busyness and worries you have about transitioning into summer with your kiddos.

This can help you find more patience & be less reactionary.

Having what I call "space" & more capacity

Here's how you can start:
- yes deep breathing, box breathing can help (you can literally do this right now)
- healing trauma and stored negative emotions can help immensely
- laying in the sun, grabbing a book, being ok with things on the to-do list waiting for another day, saying no more often

I know you all are here for Mr Bjørns content - but also...

I didn't know that when I started my journey to heal burnout by letting go of so many patterns and stored stress and emotions that were no longer serving me, that I would also GAIN so much in return.

I literally got my life back. And I have so much gratitude for these little moments when I've chosen to slow down and be present.

Yes there's laundry on my kitchen table. Yes there's work to be done...

But these are the memories we will laugh at and look fondly back on. Not whether or not I got the laundry put away by 10 am today.
