Community Partners NH

Community Partners NH We are the designated Community Mental Health Center, Developmental Services Provider and Family Support Center for Strafford County.

We connect our clients and their families to opportunities and possibilities for full participation in their communities. We have a long and rich history of providing critical supports and services for individuals and families living with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral health challenges, and are one of the only two places in the state where people can find both behavioral health and developmental supports and services within one agency. We strive to promote respect, wellness, full inclusion, and empowerment of individuals and their families who experience mental illness, emotional distress, developmental disability, chronic health need, or acquired brain disorder.

UPDATE!! Vigil canceled due to weather! ❄️

We stand with our partners in acknowledging the painful truths brought forward and in honoring the people whose lives mattered deeply. We share a commitment to dignity, safety, and real belonging for people with developmental disabilities. This vigil is an important moment to pause and remember. We’re proud to support this effort and the communities, families, and professionals who work every day to uplift and safeguard the people they serve.

🕯️ Lights for Dignity: Candlelight Vigil 🕯️
Shine a light for justice

ABLE NH and People First of NH invite you to join us for a candlelight vigil at the NH Statehouse.

📅 January 17
⏰ 4:30–5:00 PM
📍 NH Statehouse

Reporting by the NH Bulletin has brought forward painful truths about abuse, neglect, and loss within New Hampshire’s developmental disability system. These are not just stories. Stephen and Christine were real people. They had names, families, and lives that mattered.

We will light candles to honor those who have passed away and to stand with people who are still at risk of being neglected or abused. This vigil is a time to come together, to grieve together, and to say clearly that dignity, safety, and belonging are not optional.

Disability is not the problem. The problem is systems that fail to protect people and communities that do not always see what is happening. People with disabilities are leaders, neighbors, and valued members of our communities. Being supported does not make someone less than. And anyone can become disabled at any time in life.

We also stand with the disability support workforce. Direct Support Professionals and others who provide care deserve respect, strong training, fair pay, and real career paths. These are not “warm bodies.” They are people with warm hearts doing critical work.

This vigil is also a call to action. Silence allows harm to continue. Connection keeps people safer. Advocacy matters. Nothing about us without us.

Please join us as we shine a light for dignity, remembrance, and change.

🕯️ Organized by People First of NH and ABLE NH

NH Developmental Disabilities (DD) & Acquired Brain Disorder (ABD) Waiver Renewal 2026–2031
Over the past year, the Bureau of Developmental Services (BDS) has worked with stakeholders and families to gather feedback on the DD Waiver. Six listening sessions were held in September 2025 to hear what’s working and what needs improvement.
That input helped shape the draft renewal application, which is now ready for public comment from January 7 – February 11, 2026. This draft primarily continues the current waiver with updates such as:
✔ Clarification on approved services
✔ Updated service limits
✔ Updated performance measures
Now it’s your turn to review and comment on the draft! Join a session or submit feedback online:

Mental Health First Aid Blog

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing's national blog features our own Suzanne Weete and Community Partners. Community Partners is funded by SAMHSA to offer Mental Health First Aid trainings throughout Strafford County. Last Federal Fiscal Year we reached over 1,000 people! The blog shows that equipping just one person with the ability to recognize su***de warning signs can be the literal difference between life and death, turning an observant bystander into a vital lifeline for someone in crisis.

Suzanne Weete, a Mental Health First Aid Instructor, started a ripple that saved the life of a high school student several states away.
