We have recently added our Toddler Town Preschool to prepare kids for Kindergarten and Home Health Care to promote safety and independence! S.T.A.R Treatment’s specialized programs include the Mini Munchers Selective Eating Program, Mouths in Motion Speech and Language Program, Toddler Town Preschool, and Home Health Care. Selective eating disorder, often confused with or labeled as “picky eating”, is an eating disorder that prevents the consumption of certain foods/drinks. This disorder is multi-faceted and requires a collaborative approach to assess the child, child/parent interaction, and environmental factors in order to identify causes of refusal and/or avoidance behaviors. Research has identified that a child’s refusal is often due to a combination of factors including pain, malaise/discomfort, immature motor and swallowing skills, sensory processing problems, learning/behavioral influences, and nutrition. Ultimately the child is selecting items that he/she considers safe, easy to chew, and that do not cause pain/discomfort. It is vital to figure out what the child is trying to communicate to us through his/her behaviors and preferences. The “Mini Munchers” program will work with the child, caregivers, and medical team to formulate a plan of treatment that identifies what the child’s eating patterns and mealtime behaviors are revealing to us about his/her needs. Therapy will focus on improving chewing and swallowing skills, reducing fear associated with trying new foods, expanding the variety of foods the child will accept to promote a well-balanced diet, and increasing mealtime enjoyment for the entire family. S.T.A.R Treatment’s “Mouths in Motion” program is an intensive articulation and language group that focuses on building social skills, improving clarity of speech and verbal expression of thoughts/ideas, and increasing comprehension abilities in order to foster positive, meaningful interactions, academic success and social-emotional development.
• Articulation Therapy focuses on building strength and coordination of the articulators (lips, tongue, and jaw) and teaching proper placement in order to improve the pronunciation of sounds and words.
• Language Therapy focuses on enhancing understanding, verbal and non-verbal expression, vocabulary, and social development. Toddler Town Preschool
