Im Jordan, a Registered Nutrition & Dietetic Technician through the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, a Certified Personal Trainer & Health Coach. I am not your typical trainer who uses moves and routines passed down through the ages, or whatever happens to sound good at the time. I have spent countless hours researching new techniques, routines, different movements and different philosophies which result in maximum results, and unmistakable gains to strength, conditioning, stamina, and all around mental fortitude. A quote from Dan Gable says: “After wrestling, everything else comes easy.” That may be true, but my workouts are definitely far from easy. I workout differently, and I get different results. Subtle holiday reminder…

Just because we are indulging at times, DOES NOT mean that we have to completely cut at other times.

You don’t have to starve yourself for an extra glass of whatever you prefer.

You don’t have to skip a meal to eat a few extra cookies.

You don’t need to workout extra hard to make up for your calories.

FAT LOSS VS. WEIGHT LOSS

We’ve all heard someone say that they have lost a crazy amount of weight in a short time period & we stop & think, “what are we doing wrong?”

Truth be told, some of that weight loss is likely not FAT loss.

For fat loss to occur, we need to make sure the body is in a calorie deficit, a pretty significant one in fact. One that you likely won’t lose 12 pounds in 1 week on.

So what other factors could be playing a role in you seeing weight loss:
🔅 Nutrition
🔅 Hydration levels
🔅 Stress
🔅 Hormones

If weight loss is occurring over a longer time period, it can definitely be fat loss, however if we’re dropping 10lbs in 3 days, it is likely just general weight loss.

This time of the year can be really fricking hard to stick to the routine + your goals. Think about: Christmas parties, sweets, more social gatherings than usual, the cold weather, the list goes on & on.

Here’s a few tips to help ya stay on track:
➡️ Set boundaries & limitations. Have a Christmas party you’re going to & know you’ll likely over eat, drink, etc? Set a limit. Instead of going crazy, allow yourself 2 drinks.
➡️ Block out time on your schedule to workout. If it’s on the calendar you are less likely to skip.
➡️ If you have a gathering coming up, be the lame one. Bring something on the healthier side that’s still tasty. Who knows, it might be the party favorite.
➡️ Be mindful when eating. Allow yourself body to process what you’re consuming.

What are some foods that you may want to avoid pre workout?

When we look at pre workout nutrition, we want to think about what is going to give us ample energy but also not cause any GI stress or make you feel like 💩.

A few things to avoid:
→ High fat foods
→ High fiber foods
→ A meal super high in protein
→ Spicy foods

You cannot have sustainable results if what you are doing is not sustainable.

Many time I hear people, especially when first starting their fitness journey that they want to lift 6x/week & run 4x/week while eating out only once a month. While this sounds great, let’s chat about that sustainability of this.

For many working people, staying consistent with this would definitely be challenging. So, while you see the results up front, you may begin to backpedal when you’re not able to remain as consistent as when you first started.

When starting any type of routine, consider the sustainability of it. Is it something that you’ll be able to do long term? If not, re evaluate the plan & implement something that is.

COMMON LIFTING SPLITS + PROS & CONS

One of the hardest parts of creating a routine is finding what works best for you.

When we think of creating a regimen, we need to take a few things into consideration:

→ How much time do you have available to train?
→ What type of volume is suitable for your current level? (Ex: a beginner will likely need a lighter volume)
→ What is the overall goal of training?

From there, a split should be worked out that focuses on the above listed factors.
