After careful consideration, our Social Enrichment Director, Amanda, has emerged victorious with her fantastic pumpkin creation. University concluded the holiday week with a lively celebration. A large candy bucket was placed near the entrance, and pumpkins were available for trick-or-treaters to cast their votes. Staff members were also encouraged to wear costumes, and both residents and team members thoroughly enjoyed the fun-filled activities throughout the entire week.

The Halloween festivities are still going strong here at the University! Wednesday was a blast with "Sports Day," where everyone proudly displayed their favorite team jerseys. On Thursday, it was "Decade Day," and our Social Enrichment Director Amanda and Social Services Director Ashley truly shined. Their outfits were a huge hit, and their walk through the halls was filled with laughter. We're all eagerly anticipating what surprises Friday holds. Stay tuned to discover what everyone has planned for the final day of Halloween celebrations!

Every October, the students of Eastbrook High School make their annual visit, bringing with them pumpkins and carving tools. This tradition, where the students carve pumpkins, is eagerly anticipated by the community, becoming a highlight of the fall season.

We are thrilled to introduce Melvin Gerstorff as our October Resident of the Month!

Melvin's roots run deep in Jefferson Township, where he has resided his entire life. The home he lived in was built by his father back in 1948, and Melvin himself was born a year later, in 1949. Melvin dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving the community, beginning in 1981 when he became a Patrolman in Upland. Through his dedication and hard work, he eventually rose through the ranks and achieved the position of Captain. He honorably retired in 2015. Melvin shares his life with his wife, Candace, and is a proud father to two daughters, Patricia Hale and Melissa Hall, and one son, Carl Gerstorff. He has been blessed with numerous grandchildren, so many that he playfully admits he's lost count. Melvin appreciates the close-knit feel of a small town. He often expresses his fondness for University Nursing and specifically highlights the exceptional employees and residents as the aspects he values most.

We extend our heartfelt love and appreciation to Melvin!

Our talented Chef, Jo Dudley, is dedicated to creating delicious and satisfying meals that our residents truly enjoy! Today's special is a comforting savory tuna casserole, accompanied by tender green peas, a soft dinner roll, and sweet red seedless grapes, perfect for a cozy, chilly day. Residents always have alternative meal options if they choose!

The Halloween week at University is shaping up to be a blast! Monday kicked things off with "Superhero Day," where everyone embraced their inner heroes and dressed up in fantastic costumes. "Twinning Tuesday" followed, and it was a great success. Team members and residents had a lot of fun coordinating their outfits to twin with each other.
