Every day, law enforcement officers across the country respond to situations involving individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. In fact, research shows that 7–10% of all police encounters involve someone with a mental illness.

Without the right training, these moments can escalate quickly — putting both the individual and the responding officers at risk.

That’s why Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is so vital. It helps officers recognize the signs of mental illness, respond with empathy, and connect people to the care they truly need — not just a holding cell.

At Clinical & Forensic Associates, we’re committed to equipping officers with the mental health knowledge and trauma-informed strategies that make every interaction safer and more compassionate.

Many Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) programs teach the basics of de-escalation — but stop there.
What they often forget are the deeper layers that make all the difference:

💬 Empathy: Real understanding of what someone in crisis is experiencing.
🧠 Mental Health Best Practices: Techniques grounded in psychology, not just procedure.
🤝 Therapist Collaboration: Partnering with clinicians who specialize in trauma, crisis response, and behavioral health.

At Clinical & Forensic Associates, our CIT training goes beyond compliance — it builds competence and compassion. We equip officers to recognize trauma, respond calmly, and connect individuals to the right resources.

Agencies interested in advancing their CIT programs with evidence-based mental health integration can partner with our team today.

Psychotic disorders — such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and brief psychotic episodes — affect how a person perceives reality. Individuals may experience hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized thinking, making it difficult to interpret or respond to their environment in typical ways.

For law enforcement officers, recognizing the signs of psychosis is critical to ensuring safety — both for the individual in crisis and for themselves.

Here’s what every officer should know:
👂 Behavior may seem erratic, but it’s not always criminal. What looks like resistance can be fear or confusion.
🧩 De-escalation saves lives. Calm communication and patience can reduce tension and prevent unnecessary force.
🤝 Connection matters. Referring individuals to mental health professionals or crisis teams can lead to long-term recovery, not repeat encounters.

By learning to recognize psychotic symptoms and respond with empathy, officers can play a vital role in building safer, more compassionate communities.

Roughly 5.5% of U.S. adults—about 14 million people—live with a serious mental illness (SMI) such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression. Many also struggle with substance or alcohol use, making them some of the most vulnerable individuals law enforcement officers encounter.

That’s why Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is so critical. It equips officers with the tools to de-escalate, build trust, and protect both civilians and themselves.

At Clinical & Forensic Associates (CFA), our CIT program goes beyond the basics. We integrate empathy, trauma awareness, and mental health education—ensuring officers respond not just with authority, but with understanding.

👮‍♂️ Law Enforcement Agencies: Partner with CFA to bring trauma-informed CIT training to your department. Together, we can build safer, more compassionate communities.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime — a statistic that reminds us how important early detection, community, and compassion truly are.

But behind every diagnosis is a mental and emotional journey that deserves care, space, and understanding.

Here are a few ways to support those affected — directly or indirectly:
✨ Listen without judgment.
✨ Offer practical help — meals, childcare, or errands.
✨ Encourage counseling or peer support.
✨ Check in long after treatment ends — healing is ongoing.

This month, let’s honor the strength of survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and uplift everyone fighting — body and mind.
