When Ryan graduated to no longer needing a horse leader, he had a new assignment for his long time volunteer 👀

After diligently working to hold his reins and steer, Miss Mary has now been promoted from horse leader to CHEER LEADER!

1, 2, 3, 4 — drop that lead rope on the floor!
5, 6, 7, 8 — Ryan’s steering out the gate!
7, 8, 9, 10 — watch out world, it’s Ryan and Finn!

It’s our privilege to cheer on our riders as they advance and grow, and we are infinitely grateful to the volunteers who invest in their riders’ goals and celebrate their success (and embrace the silliness 🤪) along the way.

How are 😎 all these clinics 😎serving our mission?

Great question! Did you know almost every one of our clinics are open to our adaptive riders? We believe - wholeheartedly- that every rider should have the same opportunities to grow, learn and experience the equestrian world. Just this year (in 2 months), we have hosted 3 clinics where adaptive riders were able to not only observe, enjoy, and learn but actually PARTICIPATE!!

A huge thank you to .equestrian (Michael Alway) and for sharing our vision of an inclusive equestrian space where all riders, of all levels, and all abilities are encouraged to learn and strive to be better horsemen.

We are so proud of our inspiring PLF riders who jumped right into these awesome clinics, and grateful for these leaders in the industry who made their goals a reality.

What’s sweeter than donuts on Valentine’s Day?? 🍩💕
A Patriot’s Promise clinic WITH donuts on Valentine’s Day AND having a sweet husband participant join us!!!
Our wonderful instructor Brooke lead the Patriot’s Promise clinic this past weekend, and her own valentine veteran husband came out to see what this awesome experience is all about! (and Brooke is also Teddy’s mom, so it was a whole family event — with donut compensation of course 🍩)

It was a pleasure and a privilege welcoming 6 new Patriots to Promise Landing Farm for the clinic, and cheering them on as they learned introductory skills of grooming and leading, and progressed through the day to a competitive challenge course!! (team 2 with the slow&steady strategy surprised us all with the W)
A lunch social topped off the day for the attendees.

Thank you to the volunteers who make these events possible, and ensure an educational and supportive experience for each Patriot.

It is with heavy and broken hearts we share that our beloved Will unexpectedly passed away this week.
Will brought immeasurable joy and empowerment to so many riders, campers, PLF staff and volunteers in his years with us, and we are so grateful to his wonderful owners for sharing their very special horse with PLF.

Will’s goofy, sweet spirit will be carried with us and remembered in the work he found instant purpose and calling in. Will was the definition of “versatile” - an OTTB with 37 starts, who retired during Covid, and found a noble second career helping kids and adults with disabilities, and those without, find independence and confidence. Will served the program at our Nanjemoy, MD Melwood location, which hosts each summer. He was an impressive ambassador of the breed, and of the caliber it takes to wear the therapy horse badge.

How lucky we were to have known such a special soul, and how equally deeply we will miss him.
Well done, good boy.💙

💙Inclusive Tuesday 💙
Very much a facet of our initiative to Redefine Inclusive is our Patriot’s Promise program serving veterans, active duty military and first responders.

In addition to our weekly lesson opportunities for Patriots, this program offers monthly 3-hour clinics that share real horsemanship skills, partnership building, and graduation with confidence and capability handling a horse— regardless of previous experience.

We are proud of our unique program that facilitates both healing and empowerment— but also offers a rare opportunity for an immersive introduction to equestrian activities — whether for peace or performance. We believe sharing effective and ethical horsemanship practices in every interaction with our participants — however brief their time at PLF may be— gives Patriots a leg up in pursuing Equine Assisted Services (or equestrian sport) for the multitude of unique benefits horses offer.

We’re over this ice and cold ❄️ and dreaming of heating up the dance floor at the Promise Ball!!!
