Our clinician turned this wintery weekend into a fun, language-rich activity to build a paper snowman while targeting different goals such as direction following, receptive language, expressive language, and more. Learning + creativity = the perfect snow day combo!

Shared book reading becomes even more powerful when we layer in multodal communication 🎶📘

Ms. Mary used Mister Rogers’ Gift of Music by Donna Cangelosi to support language development through visuals, music, spoken language, and AAC. By modeling communication across modalities, children are given multiple meaningful ways to access and express language.

During shared reading, this approach can support:
• Expanding vocabulary and concepts
• Practicing verb tenses and sentence structure in a natural context
• Increasing engagement and joint attention
• Navigating and familiarizing an AAC device in a functional, motivating way
• Connecting language to rhythm, emotion, and real-life experiences

Books paired with music and multimodal supports invite children into the story, reduce pressure, and create rich opportunities for meaningful communication — all while keeping learning fun and engaging.

✨ Miss Erika is back with our ASL series! ✨
Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy New Year as we kick things off with new signs to help support early language development.

These signs can be a great tool to encourage communication, reduce frustration, and support expressive language in young learners. We’re so excited to continue sharing simple, functional signs you can use in everyday routines at home and in therapy!
