Celebrating our Founder and Clinical Leader of Montclair Speech Therapy, Lori Caplan-Colon, as she presents A Clinical Approach to Feeding: Sensory and Motor Barriers to Expand Diet and Improve Meal Time during an in-service for the MST team the past two days. Her expertise continues to shape the way we support our clients.

We are also excited for her to share this presentation this weekend at Academy 360 in Verona, where she will be sharing her knowledge and passion!

Reading with your child is powerful, but how you read can make an even bigger impact on their language development. Here are 3 simple ways to make storytime more effective:

✨ Picking the right book
Books with repetitive and predictable language give your child more exposure to the same words and phrases. This helps the language become familiar, gives them time to understand it, and supports them in using it on their own.

✨ Model and wait
When you model simple phrases like “The dog is running,” you’re showing your child what language sounds like. You don’t have to stick to just the words on the page. Talk about the pictures too! Then, pause and give wait time to help your child process and try. You can also use starter phrases like “The dog is…” to create an easy, low-pressure opportunity for them to join in.

✨ Make it interactive
Using voices, gestures, and sound effects keeps your child engaged and makes learning language fun. When children are engaged, they’re more likely to understand and use new words.

Every 9 seconds, someone in the United States sustains a brain injury, yet misconceptions and gaps in knowledge remain. By raising awareness, we hope to spark conversations and highlight ways our team can support recovery and communication goals.🧠

Perfect for ages 4–6, this Reading & Writing Boot Camp builds confidence in letter-sound awareness, decoding, comprehension, and handwriting in a fun, supportive environment.
