It’s not just “picky eating.”

ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) goes far beyond food preferences. Unlike picky eating, ARFID can impact physical health and mental well-being and is not connected to body image or shape.

⚠️ It can cause:
• Significant weight loss
• Nutrient deficiencies
• Reliance on supplements or feeding tubes
• Major anxiety and fear around food
• Disruptions to growth and daily life

📌 There are three types:
• Restrictive – low interest in eating
• Avoidant – sensory-based aversions
• Aversive – fear after choking, vomiting, or allergic reactions

As SLPs and OTs, we support children with ARFID by addressing the sensory, motor, and emotional challenges that make eating so hard.

Our owner had the joy of connecting in person this week with a wonderful group of women small business owners in the Des Moines area. 💛
Throughout the year, she meets with this group monthly, a circle of women who understand the highs, the pressures, the creativity, and the courage it takes to build something meaningful.

It’s a reminder that strong businesses grow from strong communities. When women support women, share ideas, and show up authentically, everyone rises a little higher.

We’re grateful to be surrounded by local leaders who are committed to making our community brighter, one small business at a time.

Here’s to collaboration, genuine connection, and the women cheering each other on as we head into 2026. 🤍✨

❄️⛄ Weekly Craft Fun! ⛄❄️

With all the snow we’ve had lately, it was the perfect week for our kids to build their own snowmen—indoors where it’s warm! They had a blast assembling and decorating their frosty friends. ❤️✨

We love seeing their creativity shine each week!

Introducing Mandi, our incredible SLP now serving families at Rise’s new Ames location! 💜

A UNI graduate with more than five years of outpatient pediatric experience, Mandi brings a heart for kids and deep clinical knowledge, specializing in:
✨ Feeding therapy—from newborn feeding support to older kids with limited diets or oral-motor needs
✨ Neuroaffirming early intervention using play and connection
✨ Articulation & language support for preschoolers and school-aged children
✨ Auditory processing and executive functioning for older children and teens

Mandi believes therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and meaningful—for both the child and their caregivers. Her approach reflects her commitment to continued learning and evidence-based practice.

When she’s not in the clinic, she’s enjoying the outdoors, running half marathons, and adventuring with her husband, two children, and golden retriever.

We’re thrilled to have her leading services in Ames! 🌟

Drop a 💜 below to welcome her to the Rise team!
