Our Des Moines members and staff had a great time at the Michael Jackson biopic — singing along to their favorite MJ songs, reminiscing, and soaking in the legacy. They even dressed up as Michael, making the whole night feel like a celebration.

Our Executive Director, Charles Hoffman, had an incredible day visiting our Crest Services’ Chariton community. He spent the afternoon meeting amazing members and dedicated staff — the kind of people who make Chariton feel like home the moment you walk through the door.

And because Chariton always has a story to tell, here’s a fun one: the town is home to the historic Chariton Depot, a beautifully restored 1904 railroad station that once served as a bustling hub for travelers across southern Iowa. It’s a reminder of how deeply rooted community and connection are in this place — something we felt all day long.

Grateful for the conversations, the laughter, and the warmth that Chariton brings every time we visit.

Our Executive Director, Charles Hoffman, spent the day visiting our Crest Services’ Ottumwa community, and it was an absolute blast. He connected with staff, met members, and got to experience the energy and heart that make Ottumwa such a standout part of Crest Services.

And because no trip to Ottumwa is complete without it, Charles stopped by The Canteen for one of their iconic loose‑meat sandwiches. The Canteen isn’t just a local favorite — it’s a piece of pop‑culture history. Its famous loose‑meat sandwich inspired the one served at Lanford Lunch Box on the TV show Roseanne, thanks to Roseanne Barr’s own ties to Ottumwa. It’s the kind of hometown legend you can taste.

Great people, great conversations, and a sandwich with its own Hollywood backstory — not a bad day in Ottumwa.
