✨ Staff Shoutout ✨

On a personal note, this one makes me feel a little funny typing out... it's not every day you get to shout yourself out. I figured it's about time for some of you to know who has been carrying on the social media work since Rhett and Ali have continued onto their next adventures!

Hello! 👋 I'm Sierra, the new Social Media Manager and one of our Front Desk crew. I graduated from Body Wisdom back in June 2025 and got my MT license, and joined the BW team in October. I also have a B.A. in Art Education and minor in Graphic Design from UNI, 2020, and worked as the Managing Editor (graphic design/social media/paper layout) for the Northern Iowan Newspaper for 4.5 years. Getting to join the team here has been a very full circle moment for me as it has resulted in the most beautiful and fulfilling blend of so many things I love- massage therapy, education, design/art, social media, and community outreach. Every day I am so thankful that I get to explore new ideas and further build upon the Body Wisdom legacy, and am excited to see where this takes me.

The classroom pictures that have been posted here in the last few months have been mostly taken by me (some are sent to me by instructors), and that has been a really cool part of the job. Getting to occasionally sit in on classes and snap a few pics has helped me foster new connections to the current students/staff, see different modalities to add to my list of future CEs to take (😉), and gives our followers a chance to see what life is like here at Body Wisdom. Between this and making graphics to post and a bunch of other behind-the-scenes things, everything has been really fun to work on, and I hope you all have enjoyed it too!

Getting to sit in on a little bit of our "Tradtional Thai Massage on the Mat" course this weekend was such a beautiful experience, and I thank our awesome students for allowing me to observe. We are truly lucky to be able to continue this deeply healing tradition and to go out and share it with so many people. ❤️

Traditional Thai massage is practiced on a mat on the floor, is derived from a blend of Ayurvedic and Chinese healing influences, and has been an integral part of traditional Thai medicine for over 2,500 years. This technique is a fluid blend of gentle stretching, rhythmic massage, and pressure point work along energy lines ("Sen"). Thai pressure point and energy line work helps to stimulate the flow of energy in the body, removing blockages and restoring balance and harmony. Thai massage can be a great way for massage therapists to save their hands and to practice the mindful and meditative aspects of modalities like this, and it helps your clients leave feeling more flexible, grounded, and rejuvenated. It's truly a two-way healing exchange! ✨

We are looking forward to what the new year brings for all of us! 2026 is going to be a year full of new memories, new changes, and new faces, and we are ready to continue this journey with everyone. Thank you for being a part of it all. 💛

Whether you like to follow a list of resolutions, or prefer other alternatives to tackling a new year on, we here at Body Wisdom are rooting for you and your success.

Just naming a few examples here, but the new year brings so many opportunities to continue pursuing the love of our field. This might be the year that you branch out and try receiving new modalities in your regularly scheduled massages... or maybe you are ready to get started with a self care routine, a few small steps at a time, and this is your year of healing and finding yourself. Maybe this is the year you simply take a step back and really focus on yourself.
Perhaps this is the year you take the leap and enroll yourself in massage school, and find yourself on the journey of a lifetime, surrounded by others from various walks of life but all coming together for the love of bodywork. Or maybe, you've been licensed for a long time, and this is a year you try out a continuing education course or a new type of bodywork that you've been thinking about. The possibilities for growth are endless!
..And so on, and so forth. However things may look for you, the new year brings many different opportunities for all of us- and we wish you all the best as time moves forward. Cheers to the journey that 2026 will take us on. 🎉

Looking for a class to help hone your stretching skills? We got you covered! 💪

On January 10, 2026, Body Wisdom Massage Therapy School will be holding our Stretching for Home Care course. We have some openings, but act fast, because enrollment is first come first served! This class is 8 hours, from 8:30 AM-5:30 PM, and is a great way to get your CE hours in. We are extremely excited for this one, because the power of stretching added in with bodywork is extremely effective and helps lead to longer-lasting results. Enhancing things such as stability, flexibility, reduced pain, and better athletic performance are just a few great benefits.

Giving a huge shoutout to our "Massage Business, Marketing, and Chair Massage" students, who have been working hard to learn about all the aspects of the business side of this industry! Yesterday, they got to see what it's like to work a chair massage event, working with the public at Crunch Fitness Urbandale to deliver chair massages. 💪

Chair massage events are excellent opportunities for promotion and collaboration, which is exactly why having the opportunity to work at one to get hands-on experience is an essential part of this course. Students learn about all aspects of chair massage, including necessary materials, marketing/promotional ideas, new techniques for short-yet-effective treatments, and other aspects that go into ensuring their success. Events like these lead to some really fun and creative opportunities to grow both your business and your skills!

The curriculum taught in our Business/Chair Massage course helps students understand how to navigate the ever-changing market, explore different career paths/settings, pursue unique ideas for businesses/products/marketing, and learn about may different legal and ethical matters. This is all a crucial part of becoming a licensed massage therapist, and it helps ignite the passion to grow and be successful.

Thank you to Tiaira for teaching the chair massage portion of the class, for sharing your vast knowledge/expertise, and helping this group have an amazing time! Another thank you to Jill for teaching the business portion- your experiences and guidance are greatly appreciated, and we are so grateful to now have you on our team! As they begin to wrap up the last few days of this class, we wanted to wish them all the best of luck, and cheers to a bright future ahead. ✨

We want to give a shout out to the Hot & Cold Stone Therapy class that took place earlier this month! It was amazing getting to watch them in action, utilizing both hot and cold stones to create a profoundly relaxing and rejuvenating session.

The use of alternating temperatures has long been scientifically and medically proven to be of therapeutic benefit to the body by helping with circulatory function, soothing sore muscles, and reducing inflammation, to name just a few things. This version of contrast therapy with the deeply relaxing heat of the hot stones, alternating with the refreshing coolness of the cold stones, is truly a unique and exhilarating experience. With Ethel leading this class, these students were definitely in for a treat.

It's a beautiful modality for sure! ✨
