Our History

Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., is the oldest family owned and operated funeral service in the Utica area. Four generations of the Heintz family have provided comfort and service to thousands of families in times of personal loss.

Fred A. Heintz Sr., founded Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. on April 9, 1909, operating its first location on Varick St. in Utica. In 1928, the funeral home relocated to its present location at 1517 Whitesboro St. Fred was joined by three of his sons, Fred A. Heintz Jr., Edward C. Heintz and John W. Heintz, who together took over the operation of the funeral home upon Fred Sr.’s death in 1941. In 1978 Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. expanded with the opening of a new location at 408 Herkimer Rd. North Utica. The third and fourth generations joined the business during the 1960’s to the 1990’s.

Today, Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. continues to operate the Whitesboro St. and Herkimer Rd. locations under the direction of Terrance K. Heintz, President/Treasurer and Fred A. Heintz IV, Vice President/Secretary. Since its beginnings in 1909 as a small funeral home on Varick St., Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. has prospered. Proudly operated by a third and fourth generation of the Heintz family, Terry and Fred continue to provide the tradition of personal service and attention to detail established by Fred A. Heintz Sr. 110 years ago, “Celebrating the lives of the ones you love. Since 1909.”
