🌟 Meet Our Board: Brian McKee 🌟

Next up in our Meet the Board series is Brian McKee, proud Utica resident and dedicated community leader.

Brian serves as the CEO of The House of the Good Shepherd (HGS) and brings a wealth of leadership experience and compassion to the Abraham House Board. Living in South Utica with his wife, Brian enjoys time with his two children and two grandchildren — and you can often find him outdoors golfing, hiking, or traveling.

As a board member, Brian is focused on supporting the development of a sustainable, scalable business plan that ensures Abraham House continues to thrive for decades to come. He values the opportunity to help guide the organization’s strategic direction and to serve as an ambassador for its mission of comfort, dignity, and love. 💙

Fun fact: Brian is an only child — but his dedication to community and service shows he’s family to many.

At Abraham House, we see possibilities in every moment — even in life’s final chapters.

This year, those possibilities looked like:

A Thanksgiving dinner in August so a mother could celebrate one more holiday with her children.

Soft Sinatra melodies filling the room as a guest reminisced about dancing with her husband.

Families gathered for game nights, laughter echoing through our living rooms.

Cheerios with Coke and hot fudge sundaes for breakfast — because joy has no rules here.

Each day reminds us that presence, love, and simple acts of kindness can transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.

As we look toward a new year, we remain dedicated to filling each day — and every home — with comfort, compassion, and peace. 💛

🌟 Meet Our Board: Patricia King 🌟

We’re honored to continue our Meet the Board series by introducing Patricia King, a dedicated advocate for compassionate, end-of-life care.

With a background in healthcare and a deep passion for supporting others, Patricia was drawn to Abraham House’s mission of providing comfort, dignity, and love to our guests and their families. As a board member, she is committed to fostering community support, ensuring sustainable funding, and championing the compassionate care that defines Abraham House. 💙

When she’s not volunteering or fundraising, Patricia enjoys staying active — she’s an avid runner who has completed five marathons and loves spending time outdoors kayaking, skiing, skating, and snowshoeing. She even fondly recalls her 2011 vehicle that carried her through 249,500 miles of adventures before she finally retired it!

Patricia’s energy, dedication, and heart for service truly embody the spirit of Abraham House.

Caregiving often happens “around the clock” — long hours, constant planning, emotional weight.

This week, let’s talk about how individuals and communities can help caregivers carry the load:
✅ Offer to run errands, bring meals, or help with small tasks
✅ Listen without judgment
✅ Encourage breaks, rest, or self-care
✅ Share resources or help them connect to support groups

Small acts of kindness can mean the world to someone who’s caring full-time. ❤️

Tag someone who you think could use a boost this week — or share a story of someone who supported you.

Did you know that over 53 million family caregivers in the U.S. provide unpaid care — supporting older adults or people with disabilities? National Council on Aging

That care has real costs — emotional, physical, financial. Many caregivers put their own health and needs on the back burner.

At Abraham House, we strive to ease some of that burden — offering support, respite, and assurance that no one should walk that path alone.

🧡 If you’re a caregiver reading this: take a moment for yourself today. Rest, breathe, reach out. You are important.

At Abraham House, we don’t think of our homes as places that guests come to die. We think of them as homes guests choose to stay as they complete their living.

Every day, we witness love, laughter, and connection — moments that remind us that even at life’s end, there’s still so much beauty left to give and receive.

Your donation helps us honor those moments, providing compassionate care free of charge to every guest and family who walks through our doors.

November is National Family Caregivers Month — a time to shine light on those who give tirelessly, often with little recognition.

To the mothers, fathers, spouses, children, friends… to anyone caring for a loved one: we see you. 💛

At Abraham House, we know caregiving is more than tasks — it’s emotional labor, heart, and devotion.

All month, we’ll be sharing stories, encouragement, and reminders that you are not alone.

Let’s begin: 💬 Tag a caregiver in your life and leave a message of gratitude.
