Abraham House

Abraham House Abraham House is a separate entity from Hospice but we work together to meet the needs of our guests.

Abraham House provides our terminally ill guests and their families a safe and loving home, with all the support needed for dignified end of life care, free of any financial burden. Referrals are welcome from physicians, healthcare agencies and families.

We’re growing… because too many families still need us. ❤️

Last year we could serve only 39% of the referrals we received. That means more than half of the families who reached out were facing their hardest days without the comfort of an Abraham House home.

Our Vision 2035 Promise is simple and strong:

🏡 10 homes in 10 years — so every family can experience compassionate end-of-life care, at no cost.

Our promise is to grow. We hope you’ll help us get there.

Mark has been at The Abraham House for just a few weeks, and he shared how much he loves the care, the staff, and the sense of peace he’s found here.

He joined us for our Caregivers Luncheon — enjoying a delicious meal, time in community, and even a sweet visit from one of the caregivers’ dogs.

It’s the little things. A warm plate of food. A friendly face. A wagging tail. A room full of people who truly care.

This is what The Abraham House is all about — comfort, connection, and compassionate care when it matters most.

From a cozy 2-bed home in Utica to a 6-bed home in Rome, Abraham House continues to grow — because the need for compassionate, end-of-life care is growing too.

We proudly serve families across Oneida, Madison, and Herkimer Counties, offering care that feels like home — peaceful, dignified, and filled with love.

And we’re not done yet.

Plans are underway to bring that same comfort to Herkimer County and Lewis County, ensuring even more families have access to care when it’s needed most.

Together, we can keep compassion close to home.

🌟 Meet Our Board: Gretchen Sprock 🌟

Meet Gretchen Sprock, a dedicated community volunteer who has served on many boards throughout the area over the years. Her commitment to service comes from taking the time to truly understand each organization’s mission and believing in the goals they work toward every day.

As a board member, Gretchen values the opportunity to give back by supporting programs that make a difference. She believes that being actively involved in the community helps spread awareness of an organization’s accomplishments and shows others the importance of supporting meaningful causes.

Outside of board service, Gretchen enjoys helping others, collecting antiques, spending time with family, and watching hockey. She is a proud mother of two sons and grandmother to two grandsons.

Fun fact: One of Gretchen’s favorite things is having family and friends gathered together at her home.

Some families walk through our doors more than once — and their courage, strength, and love leave a lasting imprint on our hearts.

The Rumbutis family shared this touching message:

“We were lucky and blessed not once but twice to have our dad placed first in November and then our mom in February. We thank God for this (same room, same bed). You are all angels and a true blessing to do what you do.”

They continued:

“You were kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate — not only to our parents but also to us. Thankful is the special way we feel because of all of you.”

It is an honor to care for families through their most tender seasons. We never take that privilege lightly.

Happy Valentine's Day! 💓

Today is a reminder that love takes many forms — a gentle touch, a shared memory, a quiet moment of connection.

At Abraham House, we see love every day.

In families holding hands.

In caregivers offering comfort.

In the tenderness that fills our homes during life’s most meaningful moments.

This Valentine’s Day, we honor the love that surrounds our guests and the families who trust us with their hearts.

May your day be filled with connection, gratitude, and the people who mean the most.

Some words stay with us long after they’re spoken, and these from Mark & Sarah Couchman mean so much:

“We were so impressed with the care and compassion showered on Mark’s dad, my father-in-law. We often tell others how special the people at Abraham House are — we’ve even called them ‘Angels from Above.’
Because of you, we were able to be family instead of caregivers.”

Creating space for families to simply be together — that’s at the heart of who we are. ❤️

We’re grateful for the Couchman family and honored to have been part of their journey.

For three decades, we’ve provided compassionate, cost-free end-of-life care to our community. ❤️

The need continues to grow… and so must we. We need more homes — and we’d love to be in your community.

Help us expand our mission.

❤️Abraham House is proud to support the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women!

Today, our caregivers and staff proudly wore red in honor of our loved ones and to help raise awareness for women’s heart health. Together, we stand for our hearts and compassion because every heartbeat matters.

We’re grateful to share this touching message from Mark and Leslie Zebrowski about their father, Henry Zebrowski:

“Thank you for all the concern and compassion given to my father while he was staying at the Abraham House. He was afforded dignity and respect through great professional and personal efforts.
You made his last days what they should be — peaceful and beautiful. The kindness shown to our whole family will never be forgotten.”

It is our honor to care for families during life’s most tender moments. ❤️
