Oneida Square Public Art & Design

Oneida Square Public Art & Design Oneida Square Public Art & Design is a social enterprise that creates custom urban streetscape art and provides jobs to those with barriers to employment.

The impact goes beyond the artwork. Oneida Square Public Art & Design is a social
enterprise founded by Oneida Square Projects, Inc. in Utica, New York. OSPA&D was established in 2015 to provide job
and training opportunities for disenfranchised
populations with barriers to the mainstream labor
market including those who were formerly incarcer-
ated, have recovered from addiction or have a
disability. The current team is using their creative
skills as former painters, carpenters and more to
handcraft pieces that enhance public spaces. The
mosaic work in particular is a reflection of the vision
of OSPA&D and its artisans – it transforms what once was broken into beautiful, functional pieces of art. OSPA&D helps our artists get back on their feet,
provides them with consistent work and income,
moves them out of poverty and provides a job right
in their neighborhood that they can get to easily.

Even though we haven’t had classes for a long while, there are still mosaics being made. This summer garden balls were put together with bright colored ceramic pieces. The new studio space is nearing completion and work is being done.

This Wednesday, Oct.4 , 6 to 7:30 pm join us at Cornerstone Community Church for The Community Healing Space and Book club. Enoshja Ruffin will be our guide ( with any help I can give) as we explore the trauma, both current and generational that stops us from growing. The writing of Resmaa Menakem will be our first book. We have copies available here at $16 or whatever you can afford. We want the book available to all.

“Resilence is built into the cells of our bodies. Like trauma, resilience can ripple outward, changing the lives of people, families, neighborhoods, and communities in positive ways. Also like trauma, resilience can be passed down from generation to generation.’ Resmaa Menakem. Therapist, Healer, & Author

From the Morrow Center: Things we can use for people,

In Food: things to fill sandwiches, snacks, cookies, milk (whole can be frozen if we get too much) canned vegetables, over abundant garden veggies, canned fruit, canned meats, sauces, pasta, salad dressings, powdered drink mixes, coffee, sugar, paper towels, bottled water, anything to make a meal. We are feeding 100+ people twice a week and the green team and others during the day. If you would like to donate large packages of chicken, or hamburger, or such that we can make casseroles and soup, we have a freezer. We also are glad to have various dishes donated.

In the closet: Blankets, towels, sweat pants, sweat shirts, and hoodies, t-shirts, jeans, underwear, all sizes but medium and large the best in men, medium and small in women, small shampoos, body wash, laundry detergent.

We also have expenses, electricity, water, insurance, (our insurance bill is huge because we have to have it, 3 people’s salary, basic repairs, bus expenses, and miscellaneous needs of the people we serve. We operate on a shoe string with dedicated volunteers and a very small congregation. Yes, we have a large building but not a large support system like many church systems are. We are open to all and do not ask or force our beliefs on anyone believing that all are to be loved unconditionally. If you would like to donate you can do it here.

I wanted this one to look like an advertisement for housing. Simple but still there are a lot of steps to do even a design like this, but the more I learn the more ideas come. There are other items besides shirts available if you search the shop.

We advocate for Housing First as a best practice and believe in the principles set out by Pathways to Housing. We believe that starting with a home is the best way to help a person make the life changes they want. Stability is a way to calm the nervous s • Millions of unique designs by independent...
