This Deep Vein Thrombosis Month, MMRI would like to highlight Dr. Felipe Lamenza, a postdoctoral fellow in the Kessinger Lab who focuses on blood clot formation and resolution within the scope of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a chronic autoimmune disease. 🧪
💬 "Those with SLE have an increased risk of inflammation and an increased risk of developing blood clots compared to the general population," said Dr. Lamenza. "I specifically look at how SLE disease severity and the overactivation of the immune system affect blood clot formation and resolution. In addition, I am also working on generating and describing a pre-clinical model for pulmonary embolism."
