Early detection saved his life. It could save yours too.

When Philippe was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he didn’t know what the future would hold. But because it was caught early, he was able to get the treatment he needed – and today, he’s a survivor.

This April, MVHS is offering FREE prostate cancer screenings to help men in our community take charge of their health. Prostate cancer often has no symptoms in its early stages, which is why regular screenings are so important.

If you or someone you love is eligible for screening, don’t wait. Schedule today at https://ow.ly/JjIS50YrYQC

Early screening = early detection. Early detection = more lives saved.

The MVHS Advanced Wound Care Center has earned accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) – a prestigious recognition that reflects the highest standards of patient safety, quality and care.

This achievement means the Wound Care team has met rigorous national standards across equipment, staff training and clinical operations, reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional care right here at home.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy plays a critical role in healing – using pressurized oxygen to help the body repair damaged tissue, fight serious infections and treat conditions such as non-healing wounds and certain diving-related injuries.

This voluntary process took months of preparation and collaboration, showcasing the expertise and dedication of our entire team.

👏 Please join us in congratulating the Advanced Wound Care Center on this outstanding achievement!

On Friday, March 13, 2026, the Family Medicine Residency Program at MVHS proudly hosted the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course, continuing a longstanding tradition of collaboration and commitment to improving maternal care in our region.

This year’s training brought together partners from SUNY Upstate, the Ellis Family Medicine Residency Program and Mary Washington Healthcare, reflecting our shared dedication to preparing clinicians to manage obstetric emergencies with confidence and teamwork.

Our outstanding instructor panel included Family Medicine Associate Program Director Dr. Hua, Core Faculty/Course Director Dr. Nitto, Program Director of Family Medicine OB fellowship Dr. Soguktas, Family Medicine attendings Drs. Schackow and Sivarajan, MVHS Obstetricians Drs. Biggers and Agyepong, and Maternity Care track residents Drs. Kodua and Yu. The course coordinator is Dr. Crossman. Their expertise and mentorship helped guide participants through hands-on simulations and critical clinical scenarios.

We are proud to have certified 16 clinicians, including family medicine residents and labor and delivery nurses, who successfully completed the course. Their dedication to advancing obstetric emergency care strengthens the safety and quality of maternal care for the communities we serve.

Thank you to all faculty, instructors and partner institutions for making this collaborative educational effort possible. Together, we continue to invest in the next generation of clinicians committed to excellence in family medicine obstetrics.
