I got to work with Capt. Tellez down in Uvalde over the last year and a half. Fine man and very deserving of this recognition. He, Lt. King and all the troopers that have been working down in that area since the shooting are fine examples of what law enforcement is all about!

Please join us in recognizing Captain Steven Tellez, Texas Highway Patrol Division – San Antonio; Captain Tellez was awarded a Director’s Citation last week for his significant and professional efforts in building a strong relationship with members of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District.

Captain Tellez, alongside Lt. King, volunteered to serve as an ambassador to help lead the school safety initiative during the 2022-2023 school year. Through their leadership, professionalism and forward-thinking, Captain Tellez and Lt. King built a positive and safe environment for students, faculty and the entire Uvalde community. They prioritized visibility and accessibility for the entire school community. Students, parents, teachers and the community have expressed great appreciation for their efforts and credit their presence in helping make Uvalde schools feel safer and more welcoming for all.

When asked what receiving this recognition means to him, Tellez said, “It was an honor to be chosen for this special assignment. The Troopers and Sergeants we worked with every week helped us bridge the gap between the community and DPS. We were able to be a part of the healing process.

“Being recognized with an award like this was not expected. It came to both of us as a surprise. It does make both of us feel good to know that our leadership took notice of the work we were doing. It is an amazing feeling; one I will always cherish.”

So last night Martha Buford and I went to feed the Uvalde Fire Dept and talk to them about the counseling services available at Uvalde Together Resiliency Center at no charge for them and their families. We served Mississippi Pot Roast (see earlier posts). There was a little bit left in the roaster when we headed home about 7:30. We cut down a back road through the park and I saw a DPS Trooper parked. I quickly pulled over, told him who I was and asked him if he had eaten yet. We had actually met before last year down here and he had some of my food back then!
He hadn't, so we offered him some of the remaining pot roast. Also had him call a couple of other troopers in the area and we fed them too!
They're always happy to get trusted home cooked meals.
These guys and gals serving with Operation Lone Star down here are away from their families a lot so I'm glad to help them out when I can.
