We have collaborated several times with Become A Foster Guardian (BFG), a rescue and shelter in Kuwait, to help save dogs. Carla and I both have multiple dogs adopted from BFG… most recently, Lemon. Because of the courage and persistence of BFG’s Director in protesting and publicly calling out the authoritarian leadership for failing to stop the horrific practices at the Friday Markets, rescue organizations are now being targeted by the monarchy.
The Kuwaiti government has begun forcibly shutting down animal shelters and destroying remaining animals using poison. They have launched drone searches to locate shelters. Another rescue, Nataly Street Princess, which housed over 200 animals, has already been evicted and is being threatened with the destruction of the animals. BFG’s shelter is currently under lockdown. The dogs are not allowed outside, and the organization urgently needs to evacuate both the animals and their caretakers to a location outside Kuwait. There is video footage, too graphic to share, documenting nearly 100 horses that were poisoned (the method of choice by the government), some mutilated out of cruelty, and left in the desert like garbage. Some dogs were miraculously found alive but emaciated, tied to poles, with no chance of survival.
BFG is doing everything possible to evacuate as many dogs as can safely travel on a flight scheduled for February 17. Until then, the dogs are being kept hidden. To comply with international regulations, each dog must obtain a health passport from a licensed Kuwaiti veterinarian, complete titer testing, receive required vaccinations, have CDC paperwork approved, secure quarantine facilities upon arrival, and travel in an airline-approved crate. These costs do not include the flight itself.
The cost to evacuate each dog ranges from $800–$1,400, depending on crate size. The Greyson Foster Fund has already agreed to sponsor two dogs, with U.S. foster families in place. A rescue in Philadelphia has also offered support if those dogs do not become foster-fails. Tragically, dogs that are not medically stable enough to travel may have to be humanely euthanized by BFG’s caretakers if no other option remains. If it comes to that, they will be given dignity, love, and compassion… things they have been denied their entire lives.
Because much of the required medical and travel documentation must be completed within three weeks of the February 17 flight, time is critical. Any amount helps! $5, $10, $50, $100, $500, $1,000, and will directly impact how many lives we can save. I can guarantee on our end that 100% of what is donated will be directly for these specific dogs.
Please consider helping us get as many dogs out as possible. With gratitude - Karyn & Carla
