Hi to everyone! I wanted to update all of you who are asking about services and upcoming events!

I will be presenting some great information related to: Speech and Language assessments, goal-writing, medical/school services, and working with your IEP team for the PEP group (Parents Empowering Parents) on April 10th, 6:30-8:30pm at Valley Church in Vacaville (5063 Maple Rd.) The PEP group opens this to everyone, so you do not have to be a member to attend. This is an adults-only presentation however, childcare is not provided.
I look forward to sharing some great information with everyone!

Also, we have had updates and announcements that many of you are aware of internally. We currently have 6 disciplines under one roof and the benefits of these therapies working together is amazing!!! We have speech, OT, PT, Music therapy, ABA, and Fitness currently. We love the collaborative care model fostered by working
"shoulder-to-shoulder" I like to say! We are continuing to hire for speech-language pathologists and have started another round of interviews, hopefully we will find a good fit soon! Spread the word!

Hi to all of our clients and families, we hope everyone is safe and our hearts go out to all of those who have been affected by the fire...such a scary time. Many have reached out to keep us posted on their plans and we will base our working schedule on both client and staff availability. As of now, the Center is open, but we may have some work schedule changes based on what happens. You will be contacted directly if sessions are cancelled.

One good piece of news in all the school closures and chaos is we got the keys to our new office today! Construction is scheduled for the next couple of weeks and we will announce the move date and exact location when we know an exact date! It is across the street from Kaiser in Vacaville.

We are also excited to announce that we will be doing our next parent class on Literacy (with info on the impact of speech and language disorders/social pragmatic disorders on literacy...tips for developing literacy skills...music therapy and ABA tips from Brianna and Jenna on how their fields enhance literacy skills and readiness...a great class!) The class will be Nov 13th...location TBD...watch for the parent group announcements...we will also post an announcement in the office!

Hello to everyone! I wanted to make some important and exciting announcements! I have hired a speech-language pathologist to work full time at the Center- she will start on Sept 11th. I also have a full time office manager starting Sept 18th (yay!) I am excited that I have found a great office manager in preparation for our expansion!

With the new speech-language pathologist starting soon, I expect to have some immediate openings for speech and language therapy for families on our wait list...which I know will be exciting news! We look forward to working with more of the wonderful families in this area!

Many of you may know that we are working on moving to a larger office space, which I hope to formally announce soon! I have also interviewed for Occupational Therapy and hope to add to the Shine Team for OT services in the new space. I am beginning to take names for an interest list for Occupational Therapy at this time. Please email me if you are interested in either private pay or insurance-based OT services, we will be taking the same insurance types we do for speech therapy services. Please talk with me via email to put your name on the interest list and determine timelines on this if you are interested! (dshahan@shinetherapycenter.com)

It looks like we also may be offering a new parent talk related to Literacy Development and the impact of speech and language difficulties (including social/pragmatics) on literacy development, along with tips and ideas to encourage a love of reading in any child, but especially a child with special needs! Keep a look out for a possible early November date with the PEP parents support group speaker series. I am working on including tips for literacy development from the fields of Music Therapy and ABA as well...with the other therapies from Shine!

I hope to have more details soon!

I am SUPER excited to announce that....it is official...I hired a fantastic (and experienced) speech-language pathologist today! I will post a bio shortly so you can get to know her! Shine has been so fortunate to have experienced such wonderful growth and collaboration with our other therapy service affiliates: Vacaville Music Therapy and Behavior Matters (ABA)! And now to have a great SLP join us...we are all beyond excited!

Our waiting list has grown quite lengthy...so now that we are official, I will be calling down the list and have already started with some families first in line! I am sure the schedule will fill quickly...and the good news is that there were additional qualified applicants, so I will see what I can do!

For those of you coming into Shine for services already, you have surely noticed the big changes as we have swapped some offices around to welcome Behavior Matters this month! It is one hoppin' clinic lately! Well, I can tell you the magic is in full force these days...what a luxury to have multiple disciplines together in one place for families and for us therapists (we teach each other so much!).

Some of the programs in the works:
Shine has been approved to add group speech therapy services with one of the main insurances we work with, which will be starting as soon as the contract is finalized...Behavior Matters is already having group sessions for ABA/social skill development. Speech and Music therapies will also collaborate to offer social groups (in the planning phases).
Also, some non-speech clients may not know that I (Danielle Shahan) am the owner/director of Shine and aside from speech therapy, I am a feeding specialist, which is an area of therapy much in need! The ABA team is working on feeding now too and with the hiring of a new therapist who is also interested in feeding therapy, I will be able to offer feeding therapy services to more kiddos...and those that have ABA will have feeding collaboration when possible based on insurance!

We already have the need to look at expanding into a larger office, wow!!! Thanks so much to all of our supportive families...I am so glad that you have noticed how passionate we are about this vision that we are creating and how much we truly care about your kids!

Wow, what a busy month! Our Executive Function and Attention class went very well and thanks to all of you for the fantastic feedback...it was so much fun to integrate speech-language therapy AND music therapy information into this class!

I think the word is also getting out about our newest announcement...we have an ABA company called Behavior Matters moving in as we speak, starting services in November! I was in Reno Thurs-Sun this past week with 3 of the lovely BCBA's/owners at an ABA conference and we had a great time learning and discussing all of our awesome ideas for collaboration!

Behavior Matters is an ABA company that has clinics/schools in Alaska and Nebraska and they will be serving several locations in California. Shine Therapy Center will be their California clinic site. They will be offering in-home ABA with a variety of insurances/contracts, as well as center-based services including small group 'mock preschool' services, individual treatments, and social skills groups for multiple age/ability levels! For more information: contact Jenna at calbehaviormatters@gmail.com

We are all so excited to expand the multidisciplinary vision of Shine and have the luxury of multiple disciplines in one location for our families!!! Woohoo!!!

Thanks to all of you for your interest in Shine's upcoming class on Executive Function and Attention! The class is this coming Monday 9/26 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This class is getting very full, so please email me at dshahan@shinetherapycenter.com if you are a non-client wanting to attend. If you are a client for Speech Therapy or Music Therapy...be sure you have signed up with your therapist...the class size is limited and we don't want to turn anyone away! Thank you and remember this is an adult-only class (no child care!). We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!!!

Announcing Shine's next free parent class: Helping Kids with Executive Function and Attention to Enhance Learning and Independence!!!

This will be the first class for me (Danielle) to present with Brianna (the Music Therapist at Shine) and we are an excited duo about this topic!!! There is so much to learn about executive function related to impulse control, emotional control, flexible thinking, working memory, self-monitoring, planning and prioritizing, task initiation, and organization...add attention to that and I think you can see why this is so important for learning and independence!

Have you noticed that your therapists use written and picture schedules, lots of transition cues and assists (what was so magical about that 'clean up' song?!), and do so many other things to gain your child's attention and encourage independence? We talk about these important things and encourage you to use many of our ideas in home life...want to go deeper learning about these topics?

Those of you that know me (Danielle) know I'm kind of a nut about these things and love to use my bag of tricks! Imagine how excited Ms. Brianna was when I told her this was our next topic and when I found out that she did her masters thesis on some of these topics!

Let's get together to learn practical ideas and gain a better understanding of why therapists do what we do and why it works!

This free class will be at Shine Therapy Center, Monday Sept. 26th, 6:30-8:30. You must have your name on our registration list to attend, space is limited and priority will be given to clients of Danielle and Brianna (though all are welcome if space permits)! Please be advised that this is an adults only class! Also, please be respectful of space limitations and only register if you will attend! We look forward to meeting with you all...we always have such great discussion and feedback from these classes!

I am so excited to announce officially that Vacaville Music Therapy (Brianna McCulloch, MM, MT-BC) will now be partnering with Shine Therapy Center and moving into the Center beginning Aug. 1st! Many clients have told me about how wonderful Brianna is with their kids and how skilled she is! We finally met and truly hit it off, and decided to partner officially! Brianna is a music therapist that uses many music types to improve functional skills in many areas...of course I am very excited to partner with her, as music is known to assist with improvements in language, speech, and social skills! This has been a hard secret to keep ;) Stay tuned for more developments!
