New to snowboarding and feeling a little unsure on the slopes? You’re not alone. The first days on a board are when we see the highest risk for wrist fractures, shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tears, and knee injuries due to frequent falls.

Dr. Terrell Joseph recommends simple steps like wearing wrist guards, learning how to fall properly, choosing terrain that matches your skill level, and staying aware of your surroundings.

A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping you injury free so you can enjoy your time on the mountain.

Meet Dr. Terrell Joseph. His journey in orthopaedics began right here in Vail, where he worked as a 22 year old ER tech and discovered a passion for mountain medicine. That spark took him to Charity Hospital in New Orleans for high volume trauma training, then all the way to New Zealand to learn advanced arthroscopic knee techniques while caring for international rugby athletes. He later completed a second fellowship in upper extremity and hand surgery in Albuquerque.

He returned to Colorado nearly twenty years ago and has been caring for our community ever since, treating ski and snowboard injuries, knee issues, tendon and ligament problems, carpal tunnel, and hand and wrist conditions.
