When you are enrolling in a standalone part D prescription drug plan, medicare.gov has a wonderful tool to help you do so.
Just go to medicare.gov and on the top menu click on “health and drug plans” then click on “ find health and drug plans”.
Enter in your ZIP Code, then click on Medicare part D then click on yes to see and compare costs.
Then enter in your medication‘s and the dosage and when you’re done, click done adding drugs at the bottom of the page.
When you get to the next screen, it will show you all of the drug plan options starting with the least expensive. You’ll see the star rating, the premium and the total estimated cost for your medications in that calendar year so this year is 2026 obviously.
You can click on the blue button below the plan description to view the plan details. It will show you how all of your medications are covered if some of them aren’t covered, what your monthly share of cost will be for the rest of the year and if you have multiple pharmacies, it will show you which one may have cheaper costs. It’s a great tool.
Once you’ve reviewed a couple different plans then you have selected the one that you like you click on the green button that says enroll rand you follow the prompts to enroll. you will need your Medicare beneficiary ID (MBI) number or your red white and blue Medicare card.
if you aren’t collecting Social Security, you can select them to send you a bill which they will bill you quarterly and if you are collecting Social Security, you can have them deduct it directly from your Social Security benefit payment.
