Golden State Psychological Services is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical Psychology to join our growing team in North Hollywood, CA.
This fellowship offers comprehensive, hands-on training in psychological and neuropsychological assessment for children, adolescents, and adults, with opportunities to provide group-based treatment for developmental delays and to supervise doctoral practicum students under licensed oversight. Fellows work with a diverse population of children, adolescents, and adults while building advanced clinical skills and hours needed for licensure. Fellows at GSPS gain the hours and competencies needed for licensure while developing advanced diagnostic, interpretive, and supervisory skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Our team values mentorship, evidence-based practice, and professional growth. Fellows are encouraged to refine their clinical voice, deepen conceptualization skills, and take part in a learning culture that balances high professional standards with a collegial, team-centered atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct clinical interviews and administer standardized psychological and neuropsychological assessments.
Score and interpret tests including the WAIS-V, WISC-V, WASI-II, WPPSI-IV, ADOS-2, MMPI-3, MMPI-A-RF, WMS-V, CPT-3, Conners 4, GARS-3, ASRS, SRS-2, ABAS-3, and other measures.
Write integrated psychological reports with diagnostic impressions and recommendations.
Participate in weekly individual and group supervision with licensed psychologists.
Supervise and mentor graduate practicum students (under licensed supervision).
Maintain accurate records in compliance with HIPAA and professional ethics.
Training and Supervision
2 hours of weekly individual supervision and 2 hours of group supervision provided by licensed psychologists.
Opportunities for case presentations, workshops, and didactic seminars.
Full testing materials provided.
All supervision meets California Board of Psychology licensing requirements for a psychologist
Qualifications
Required:
Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program
Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship
Eligibility for California licensing requirements for a psychologist
Strong assessment, diagnostic, and report-writing skills
Ability to discern between Autism Spectrum Disorder and similar psychiatric presentations
Experience administering and interpreting the ADOS-2 and Wechsler intelligence scales
Preferred:
Experience with autism and ADHD assessments
Proficiency in Spanish or another second language
Compensation & Schedule
Starts part-time (30 hrs/week for 2 months), then transitions to full-time.

Communication style is important and sometimes overlooked in therapy. Clients may get the therapist so involved in content of issues or emotion that pattern, context, communication style, and nonverbal behavior get overlooked. Let's further your relationships by fully expressing your thoughts with words the listener can understand, giving the right emotional content, matching facial expression and eye contact, choosing the right time, place and context, as well as analyzing your overall patterns of initiation. www.gpsych.org

In contrast to the picture below, married people are happier than unmarried people: across nearly five decades of surveys, data from the GSS shows that 36% of people who have ever been married (including divorced, separated, and widowed people) say they are “very happy” while just 11% are “not too happy,” compared to 22% and 15% for people who have never married (from Lyman Stone, Research Fellow at the Institute for Family Studies).
Could it be that happier people are also more likely to get married? So we can expect higher levels of happiness among married people even if marriage itself does not increase anyone’s happiness (Psychology Today).
As a result of Washington large longitudinal study, researchers have found that people get a minor boost in life satisfaction from marriage, but then come back to their premarital 'normal level' of happiness.https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2003/03/married-happy
Harvard psychology researcher Daniel Gilbert, PhD (Knopf, 2006) said it’s not marriage that makes you happy, it’s happy marriage that makes you happy.

I assess IQ almost every day, but it's good to remember that intelligence is multifaceted. Here's an interesting text I found about intelligence:

1) Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)
3) Social Quotient (SQ)
4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ): this is the measure of your level of comprehension. You need IQ to solve math's, memorize things, and recall lessons.

2. Emotional Quotient (EQ): this is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others, keep to time, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine and considerate.

3. Social Quotient (SQ): this is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time.

People that have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ and SQ. Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down.

Your EQ is associated with your Character, while your SQ shows your Charisma. Give in to habits that will improve these three Qs, especially your EQ and SQ.

About the 4th one,

4. The Adversity Quotient (AQ): The measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life, and come out of it without losing your mind.

When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up and who is a "survivor", strengthened by challenges they go through. Of course, you don't have to expose yourself or children to adversity, but some challenges happen anyway, so go through challenges with strength, self esteem and emerge stronger.

Exposing children to other areas of life than Academics, such as work with your hands like cooking and gardening, sports and arts. Kids should become multifaceted human beings. Here's a great advice I read: "Do not prepare the road for your children. Prepare your children for the road."

Some parents just need support because they are overwhelmed; raising kids is hard. Sometimes parents have tried everything and don't realize the children need help. Don't be embarrassed if your kids are not listening and throwing tantrums. These children may have special needs, which I can evaluate. Help is around the corner.
