During a recent update to the Valley Lions Club, Greg Nichols, Chief Facilities Officer at East Alabama Health, highlighted how EAMC-Lanier's transition to a Rural Emergency Hospital (REH) is already yielding positive results.
After experiencing a significant loss last year, the hospital is now on a path toward financial stability by focusing on 24/7 emergency and outpatient services instead of inpatient care. Nichols credited this progress to the hospital’s partnership with East Alabama Health and the continued support of the local ad valorem tax, which has raised about $15 million since 2013. In return, East Alabama Health has invested more than $60 million into the Valley facility, funding vital upgrades such as new MRI and CT machines and improvements to the hospital’s 103-bed nursing home—recognized by Newsweek as one of the best in the nation. More than 200 people work at EAMC-Lanier REH.
“We want to stay open here in Chambers County for years to come,” Nichols said. “We can do that as long as we remain stable as a rural emergency hospital.” Read more here: www.valleytimes-news.com/2025/10/eamc-lanier-moving-towards-successful-future/
