The T’ai Chi Chih form is a set of gentle movements designed to develop, balance, and circulate the body’s chi or vital energy. These 20 movements are easy to learn and practice. An eight week course is sufficient to introduce them to a beginner. Their continued practice can lead to better health, movement, balance, and a general feeling of well being. Of course, benefits cannot be predicted or guaranteed, but will only come with regular practice.
*What is it not? T’ai Chi Chih movement is not a martial art, in the sense that it is not designed for combat nor self-defense; it is completely non-violent. T’ai Chi Chih practice is not high-impact aerobics. It is gentle exercise well suited for the elderly and for all levels of ability.
*What is Chi? Chi, describe in various countries and practices as prana, ki, vital force, mana, spirit, breath, essence, or bio-energy, is the universal life force of the body.
*Where are classes taught? Classes are offered at t’ai chi and yoga studios, in schools and universities, park and recreation departments, retreat and conference centers, hospitals, churches, and even prisons; anywhere with enough room and interest to host a class.
*Who teaches the classes? T’ai Chi Chih classes may only be taught by accredited teachers. These teachers meet a standard level of practice and have undergone additional training to be effective teachers capable of transmitting the T’ai Chi Chih form in a gentle and consistent way. White has been practicing the T’ai Chi Chih form since 1990, and was accredited in April of 1994. Since then he has taught classes in Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois as well as at workshops in Virginia and other locations. He is a practicing massage therapist in Jackson, Tennessee.
