Margie Joyce Bertman (Zahrli), 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 15, 2022.

She was born on November 30, 1940 to Clarence and Edna Mae Zahrli (Dixon) of Golden Eagle, IL. In 1960, she married John Bertman of Jerseyville, IL. Nine years later, she gave birth to their only child, Laura. After nearly 40 years of marriage, John died on April 19, 2000.

Margie led a full and happy life. She lived in Illinois, Kansas, and settled in Florida. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Margie loved taking care of everyone whether it was working alongside John at his family department store and being his secretary when he worked for Lee Jeans, supporting Laura’s activities as a child and volunteering at the schools Laura taught at as an adult, cooking for her ever hungry grandsons, or reading to her great-granddaughters.

Margie was a fantastic baker. Everyone loved her cookies and they were always requested at gatherings of family and friends. Another talent was her crocheting. If she wasn’t donating baby afghans to a church, she was giving one to whoever had just given birth.
