Did you know that the liver is responsible for over 500 different functions?! Not just for detoxification but also for producing bile to help break down food, storage for blood sugar (glucose), stores essential nutrients and assists in hormone production and management - plus SO much more!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine the liver is crucial for helping with the free flow of Qi, or energy. It also is essential for regulating emotions, especially anger. It governs the tendons of the body and the eyes.

For us women it becomes even more involved with hormone production and management as we reach our peri- and menopause years. It works alongside the adrenal glands to make up for the drop in output from the ovaries.

If we have a sluggish liver we can experience a lot of different issues. This is just a small example of what can be affected. It’s so incredibly important to support our body as a whole because no one system works alone. Addressing liver health is just one piece of the entire puzzle…. But it’s an extremely important one.

When the air is this dry and cold, your nervous system feels it.

Dry air can irritate sinuses, dry out skin, disrupt sleep, and even increase that low-level tension we don’t always notice. One of the simplest resets? A pot of gently simmering herbs on the stove.

You’re adding humidity back into the air
You’re infusing your space with plant medicine
You’re shifting the energy of your home

Try a blend like:
• Rosemary for clarity
• Thyme for respiratory support
• Cinnamon sticks for warmth
• Orange peel for brightness
• Lavender for calm

Let it simmer low and slow. Breathe deeply. Let your home feel alive again.

And bonus… many of these herbs can double as tea. Strain, pour into a mug, and sip the same plants that just supported your space!

GLP-1 medications can be powerful tools, but they are not the whole story.

Your body already makes GLP-1 naturally to regulate blood sugar, appetite, and digestion. Synthetic versions simply mimic that signal. Without proper nourishment and root cause healing, the body loses more than weight. It loses muscle, nutrients, and long-term balance.

A holistic approach means:
Supporting the gut
Feeding the body whole food nutrition
Protecting hormones and metabolism
And using micro-dosing wisely as a bridge while lifestyle changes are built

If you stop without changing the foundation, nothing truly healed.
You just paused the symptom.

Micro-dosing allows you to see results while creating sustainable habits so your body can thrive long after medication ends.

Health is not about shrinking.
It’s about restoring function, balance, and vitality.

Healing happens when we work with the body, not override it.

We LOVE recommending Standard Process supplements for our patients because of their high quality and strong mission. But did you know they also have formulas for your pet?!?

Dr. Nicole knows how important good nutrition is. Not only for humans but also for our beloved furry babies. Even though our pets are incredible and seem to be happy & energetic pretty much ALL the time (especially our crazy puppies 🤣) they have to process a lot of stressors as well.

Proper nutrition in pets is more than just meeting basic nutritional profiles - just like humans! Dogs are exposed to lots of different environmental factors: thunderstorms, adoptions, travel, grooming, medications, vaccines, and other things that are done in an effort to keep them healthy.

Standard Process supplements provide whole food nutrients including:
*Organ and Gland specific nutrients
*Botanicals, amino acids, vitamins, and phytochemicals to support optimal health

Variety is SO important in our pets diets, although most of our furry family members end up eating the same thing day in and day out.

Interested in seeing what is available for your pet? Feel free to reach out or shop at drnicole.standardprocess.com

PART 3 on PEPTIDES:

Continuing my rules for peptides:

4. Water, water, water! Sooo important. If you live in the South like me (or spring/summer up North) add in electrolytes. If not daily, every other day. My favorite are LMNT. Avoid things like Gatorade due to the sugar content and dyes.

5. PROTEIN!! It’s so vital and we don’t get enough. Protein can come from a variety of sources. You don’t just have to eat hormone infused chicken all the time 😜 A good rule of thumb is to eat 1g per pound of goal body weight. Yeah, I get it. It feels like a lot! So 1/2 that. Take your goal body weight, cut it in half, translate that to grams and start there. Ex: goal weight 150 pounds, 1/2 is 75 = 75 grams of protein per day. That’s your first step goal. If you have diagnosed kidney or liver problems, or other underlying issues, then of course you’ll need want to clear that with your specialist. But this is a good first step goal for many people. Because most aren’t even getting 30 grams of protein a day and it’s the building block for so many things in the body.

I hope this has been helpful and you can see why I’m a big proponent of co-management. Rarely do we only ever need ONE thing that will ‘fix it all’. In this day and age, our health can take a village. It’s usually a compounding of things that leads to imbalances in our system which means it might take more than just one approach to fix it 💕

PART 2:

Think of it as learning a new language. The peptide is an on site translator. You instantly know what someone else is saying to you and you can talk back with them in real time. Your supplemental support is your Duolingo - the app that is teaching you over time how to speak the new language. Eventually, once the translator leaves, you’ll know how to speak this new language. But for now, it’s a fantastic support tool to have along the way.

My rules for starting a peptide:

1. Go to a knowledgeable trusted holistic healthcare professional. Someone that will look at the entire person and give you a solid plan.

2. Have a healthy lifestyle routine. You don’t suddenly have to decide you’re running marathons. Pick a fitness class you enjoy (weights, yoga, Pilates, etc) and start going. Start at once a week. Then go twice a week. Then 3 times. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself grace. Start small and slowly implement new things and see how it fits into your schedule the best. But do prioritize it. Let your family know how important it is to you so they can help you stay on track.

3. Use high quality, whole food based supplements for your digestive system. My favorite is Standard Process. It’s so easy to order them from the office or from another qualified health provider. I do not trust what comes from big box stores or Amazon - sorry not sorry! There’s no way to guarantee the quality of those supplements. No way of knowing how long they’ve been sitting in a warehouse and the temperature control. A study done years ago found that many of the supplements in big box stores had very little to NONE of what it said they had. SP has their own organic farms and source the highest quality nutrients. For how amazing they are, they are INCREDIBLY affordable.

PART 1:

Ahhh yes. This question. In the world of the internet there are so many statements about peptides. The good, the bad, the ugly.

For anyone that know’s Dr. Nicole, you know she’s never really been one to “conform to the norm” 🤣 So here’s her take on peptides:

Before I ever recommend things to patients, I try them myself. For years I’ve done functional nutrition and it was a lifesaver. Managing hormone imbalances, fighting chronic fatigue, getting my gut health in order. But the weight never changed. Despite working out in the gym for hours. I heard a lot about peptides but was SUPER resistant at first…. Until I got more educated.

What I discovered was it was the method in which they were being used. They were being prescribed to so many people without ANY kind of plan. People just stopped eating, it slowed their digestive system and they lost weight. They also lost precious muscle. They didn’t know they needed to eat high protein, they didn’t know they still needed to weight train, get electrolytes down, take digestive enzymes, etc. They just increased and increased dosage when often it wasn’t even necessary.

Peptides send signals. They tell your body what to do. They don’t permanently change it. So, when these individuals would come off the peptides, they would struggle with the weight returning. Because none of the underlying issues had been addressed. There was no support structure given.

This is where holistic management comes in. With lower doses of peptides (more specifically GLP-1s/GIPs) along with lifestyle + dietary changes and whole food nutrition, people can use peptides like a tool and HEAL their systems at the same time.

If you’re on a GLP/GIP specifically and need support, we’d love to help. If you’re looking into the benefits of peptides let us know! Glad to get you any information you need.
