Radiant Compassion

Radiant Compassion Updates on Alison's Kripalu Yoga and Reiki offerings. What is radiant compassion?

People who incorporate mindfulness into daily life often describe how being in the present moment increases their connection to their sense of being. By developing a relationship with the self, a person can start to move through life from an authentic place, making choices that align with one’s morals, values, and passions. Alison believes that this practice of being true to oneself and honoring one’s inner authenticity elicits a true quality of radiance. About Alison: Alison Christiansen, LCSW, RYT, and certified Reiki Master, was initially drawn to yoga as a practice for building and maintaining the strength and flexibility she had developed as a dancer of over 15 years. By practicing yoga and mindfulness, Alison quickly discovered the joy and power of living in the present moment. When she was introduced to Kripalu yoga, while on retreat with her mother, she was attracted to the tradition’s emphasis on self-compassion and self-inquiry. Alison completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in 2012. Her instructing is complimented by additional trainings focused on trauma-sensitive yoga and therapeutic yoga techniques. Alison is currently a practicing clinical social worker, developing a specialty in helping individuals impacted by trauma heal through mindfulness-based modalities. Alison teaches yoga in both therapeutic and studio settings in the Ithaca/Cortland area.

Hey friends, it’s been a minute since I’ve posted in this social media world. I’m happy to share I’ll be offering a Reiki Yoga Workshop in November 🍂🍁✨🥰 Time to slow down, be held by the nourishment of Reiki and restorative yoga, and embrace the qualities of autumn. A potent time to give yourself this gift of rejuvenation ✨✨✨

I’ve been taking my time slowly returning to my work life - holding space for others’ healing is a responsibility I don’t take lightly, it’s an honor and privilege. My daily life is of course an ebb and flow of grief waves, and as I re-engage in my work world, I’ve found more and more avenues for compassion and the remembrance that we are all interconnected, a powerful oneness 💛 It’s energizing, enriching and beautiful to return to teaching 🥰

Let’s be together 🍁

November 9th 3-4:45pm in Ithaca. Sliding scale available. Link in comments 🍂

Just wanting to share my appreciation for the true outpouring of love and support Evan and I have received in the past several weeks since our son’s passing. All of the cards, texts, flowers, meals, company, hugs, tears, laughs and other tokens and offerings of love and support. In a time where there are no words, knowing we have a whole village of humans mourning alongside us has truly been deeply comforting. I have felt loved and held in a way I can’t even articulate. It all honors his life and joy he brought into our worlds. Thank you 💙❤️✨✨

TW: pregnancy loss

This is the most vulnerable post I’ve ever opened myself up to share. Evan and I lost our sweet baby boy at the end of June, just shy of 6 months pregnant. We are devastated and heartbroken. Nothing in life can prepare you for this unimaginable loss.

Our boy revived a deep sense a hope and joy within me. He was a light in the darkness of my father’s recent passing and every day I thanked him for choosing us as his parents. His little kicks inspired a love I’ve never known.

Having experienced the grief of miscarriage over the past several years, we are all too familiar with the devastation of pregnancy loss, how the grief can change you to the core. Being this far along and hopeful, his arrival in sight… its an incomprehensible level of heartbreak.

In this difficult time, what’s anchored me most is my love for Evan. To have him by my side in the worst moment of our lives, to go through it together, I really don’t have words for a love like this. I know, somehow, we will trudge through this side by side.

In the past, I chose to navigate our experience of miscarriage very privately, though that only caused isolation. Moving through this openly and authentically feels like the only way through - I don’t even know what that means yet, but no part of me can just carry on as though everything is fine. I know a loss of this magnitude will change my whole existence and I know even the deepest suffering can spark connection.

We are grateful for our families, our mothers and the vast village of friends who have immediately shown up to share in our heartache and hold us as we grieve the loss of our beloved son 💙

Sunday was my first Father’s Day without my dad physically here. I talked to him, a bunch, but it was sad not getting to make a phone call, hear his voice or pick out a card to mail him. It’s been only 2 months since his passing and it’s hard to settle in this new world.

So I spent the morning in spirit community and then went for a long walk in the woods with my pup - he always liked to walk and hike and always asked about Nori whenever we’d talk. And potted some dahlias ❤️

Trying to be a little more open in this loss in real time in this weird social media world. Grief feels like the most human thing for me to feel and be present to. I was touched by how many people checked in on me, friends who’ve lost parents gently offering, “the first one is the hardest.” Suffering can be connecting if we remember it’s part of the human condition, we all experience it. All that I’ve studied on equanimity, compassion and suffering is being re-integrated in this new world. Anyways, that’s what’s going on in my little corner 💛
