Day 2 of the Heiwashinkai Mississippi Free martial arts seminar, starring Coach Jeff Burger. Donations gratefully accepted, as usual.

Day 1 was all striking, footwork, timing, trapping, and principals.

Day 2 will be grappling, escaping from ground holds, and maybe some stick/knife stuff.

All you have to lose is your ego (check it at the door, please). Why not at least come check it out?

Wanted to remind everyone about our upcoming two-hour BJJ seminar in the dojo this Friday, 5:30-7:30pm, with Daniel Deshauteurs. It's for donations, so bring your shekels for the donation jar.

So, I did a thing.

Privileged and slightly humbled by the fact that Dean and Tom will be planning on attending the United in Blue Law Enforcement Fundraiser tonight with me at the Gold Nugget Casino in Biloxi to benefit the families of officers who were killed on duty. Maybe we'll get a chance to spread the word about our mission to provide them with free jujutsu lessons to keep them and the public safe.

Attention Wal-Mart Shoppers:

Apparently, while Amazon was shutting down their Smile program which allowed customers to choose a charity and have a small portion of their purchase price go to that organization, Wal-Mart was still in the game.

If you use the Walmart App to make purchases, please consider choosing Heiwashinkai Mississippi as your charity of choice. We're still here in the trenches providing kick-ass Traditional Jujutsu to the families of the community who would never be able to afford it for their children or themselves otherwise.

It ain't much, but every penny helps.

Heiwashinkai Jujutsu (HJI) has some openings in both kids' and adult classes, so I will be advertising a bit more frequently to raise awareness of our free programs.

HJI is a traditional Jujutsu school. Our emphasis is on real-world self-defense, not sport, although we do some sparring nearly every class.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, formed by disabled veterans and educators to give back to the community, and while the focus of our nonprofit is other disabled veterans, special needs kids and adults, and Law Enforcement officers, all classes are free (with donations gratefully accepted).

Traditional Jujutsu is the parent art of both Judo and Aikido, and contains similar throws, joint locks, strikes, sweeps, chokes, pressure point/pain compliance techniques, and weapons and weapon defenses, all taught against real-world attacks such as punches, tackles, grabs, and even multiple attackers at higher levels of training.

HJI has a gorgeous custom-built training facility at our disposal, with handicapped-accessible bathroom/showers, large changing rooms, commercial-quality gym equipment for strength training, a luxurious massage chair, over 1,100 sq ft of thick, safe mats, and an Oculus 3 that was provided by the community for the use of the students to help with balance issues or anxiety or just plain enjoyment.

Our head instructor has 24 years training experience and over 18 years teaching experience.

Our class schedule is as follows:
Tuesdays and Thursdays
Kids ages 5-12: 5:30-6:30pm
Adults 13+: 6:30-8:30pm

Sundays
Adults: 1-2pm Beginner/Fundamentals class (extra falling and rolling)
2-4pm normal adult Class

We also offer a Free Monthly Movie Night to the community, shown on our immersive 4k projector with a 15' screen and 7.1 theater-quality surround sound system. This month's movie will be Beetlejuice on Feb 24th.

Jujutsu is an amazing martial art which is suitable for all ages, to build self-confidence, improve fitness, teach self-defense skills, or just to turn your mind off the rigors of day-to-day and focus on training.

Heiwashinkai Mississippi would like to thank Janson Lane with Platt Properties for their generous and unsolicited tax-deductible donation of $500 to our nonprofit. We are currently looking into placing gutters on the two sides of the dojo that have doors because right now, when it rains, everyone gets water dumping straight down their back as they come and go from class. I've had every intention of putting gutters up (at least on those two stretches) since I planned the building, so this will be nice to be able to provide it for the students and their families.

Well, that made my afternoon. Now, even if nobody shows up for Movie Night, the day isn't a total loss.

Shawn Drew from Gable Roofing LLC made a tax-deductible donation of $400 to the nonprofit.

Gable Roofing did a fabulous job getting us a metal roof to replace the plain shingle roof that had plagued us ever since we moved back to Vancleave. He is a consummate professional and has always done right by us. He's also a Navy veteran.

Couldn't have come at a better time.

I know it's cold outside, but the roads are clear and there's no more precipitation expected tonight.

Class is on for tonight (Tuesday, Jan 16th).

I even put the heaters on in the dojo! Let's not let that go to waste.

New year, new chance to start a great hobby. Heiwashinkai Jujutsu is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that teaches Traditional Japanese Jujutsu to improve mental and physical health and well-being, improve self-defense skills, raise self-confidence levels, teach discipline, and many other benefits. All our classes are taught for free, with donations gratefully accepted.

We have a gorgeous 2,400 sq ft dojo facility that was custom-built for the class, great commercial-quality gym equipment, a wonderful massage chair, a theater-quality projector setup, and an Oculus 3 donated by YOU for the general use of the students.

Make 2024 the year you start learning the art you always heard of but never managed to begin. All you have to lose is your ego.
