😬 Jaw Pain? Clicking? Headaches? It Might Be TMJ.

If you’re dealing with:
• Jaw pain when chewing
• Clicking or popping
• Locking
• Ear pain or pressure
• Tension headaches
• Neck pain

You may have TMJ dysfunction — and yes, physical therapy can help.

At Jones Physical Therapy, we look beyond just the jaw.

TMJ problems are often connected to:
✔️ Neck stiffness
✔️ Poor posture
✔️ Muscle tightness
✔️ Stress-related clenching
✔️ Movement coordination issues

Physical therapy treatment may include:
• Hands-on joint and soft tissue work
• Targeted jaw exercises
• Postural correction
• Dry needling (when appropriate)
• Education to reduce clenching and overload

The goal isn’t just temporary relief.
It’s restoring proper movement so symptoms stop coming back.

If your jaw is talking to you… it’s time to listen.

✨Looking Beyond the Referral & Treating Root Cause, Not Just the Symptoms✨

🎓 PHYSICAL THERAPY GRADUATION 🎓

Today we’re celebrating a powerful physical therapy graduation and a reminder of why physical therapy should often be a first line of care.

This patient initially came in for elbow pain, but through a thorough evaluation and conversation, he also reported significant neurological symptoms in the low back, including severe nighttime cramping and leg seizing. Due to insurance requirements, conservative care was required before advanced imaging could be performed.

Through a detailed assessment, we identified substantial tissue restrictions contributing to nerve irritation and his debilitating symptoms. After further discussion and education regarding these findings, we made the decision to move forward with a comprehensive physical therapy plan addressing both the elbow and the spine.

With skilled manual therapy, targeted exercises, and extensive education, his symptoms steadily resolved.

The results:
✔️ Resolution of neurological symptoms
✔️ Resolution of elbow pain (lateral epicondylitis / “tennis elbow”)
✔️ Improved movement and confidence
✔️ Education on safe lifting and transfer techniques while caring for an aging parent

Cases like this highlight the power of conservative care. With the right evaluation, treatment plan, and therapy team, PT can change the course of someone’s health and help avoid unnecessary invasive procedures.

We’re proud and grateful to be part of these journeys. This is why we do what we do.

👏 Team Appreciation Post 👏

Today we want to give a huge shout-out to someone who plays a big role behind the scenes here at Jones Physical Therapy.

Every single week, without fail, our linens are picked up, cleaned, folded perfectly (seriously, like a folding ninja 🥷), and returned on time. It may seem like a small thing, but when you run a clinic that uses a lot of towels and linens every day, this matters a lot.

Her consistency, reliability, and attention to detail help our team do what we do best; take care of our patients. It truly takes a village, and this is a great reminder that every role matters, whether it’s patient care, front office, or behind-the-scenes support.

We’re incredibly grateful for the effort, pride, and professionalism she brings every week. Thank you for being part of what makes this place run smoothly, we appreciate you more than you know.

🎓 Another Physical Therapy Graduation 🎓

This patient originally came to us following a total knee replacement and did extremely well returning to full function and feeling 100% after being discharged from JPT.

Later, while pushing himself to improve strength and cardiovascular endurance using stairs and stadium steps, new symptoms showed up that felt like his knee again. Instead of immediately returning to the doctor, he trusted our team to take a deeper look.

After continued assessment, we found the real issue wasn’t the knee at all. A prior condition involving the psoas muscle was referring pain into the quadriceps, closely mimicking knee pain related to his surgery. Once we addressed the true root cause, he experienced significant relief and everything finally made sense.

With targeted treatment and a personalized plan, he now understands exactly what was happening and how to manage it moving forward. He’s back to stairs, stadiums, fishing, boating, and spending quality time with his grandchildren; doing the things that matter most to him.

Cases like this are why we take the time to reassess, think critically, and adjust when needed. Progress isn’t always about doing more… sometimes it’s about asking better questions.

We’re grateful for the trust and proud to see him doing so well again. 💪

🎓 Physical Therapy Graduation 🎓

Imagine doing everything right: working out consistently, attending CrossFit classes, putting in real effort. Yet dealing with a nagging back pain that slowly worsens. Eventually, workouts stop. Daily activities flare symptoms. And despite doing what’s commonly recommended, nothing quite gets you over the hump.

That’s exactly where this patient found herself.

She decided to explore physical therapy, unsure if it could truly help. On her first visit, we completed a full movement and functional assessment of her low back, hips, and surrounding structures to get to the root cause, not just the symptoms.

What we found wasn’t a “bad back,” but a combination of muscle imbalance, side-to-side weakness, and asymmetrical tightness that was quietly driving her pain. Once she understood why it was happening, everything clicked.

By addressing these foundational deficits over just a few weeks, her movement improved significantly. She’s now back to CrossFit, training with confidence, moving better than before and without the constant fear of flare-ups holding her back.

This is why education, assessment, and individualized care matter. Physical therapy isn’t just for recovery, it’s about helping people stay strong, active, and doing what they love long-term.

We’re grateful for the trust and proud to see her finish strong. 💪

🎓 Graduation Day Highlight 🎓

This patient came to us after an ACL reconstruction following a long-standing knee injury. The goal wasn’t just recovery, it was returning safely to real job demands and high-level function.

Rehab focused on strength, stability, and confidence in the knee for climbing stairs, getting in and out of a truck, and tolerating load without reinjury. Along the way, he utilized several advanced techniques we often reserve for higher-level ACL athletes:

• Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) to build strength safely with lighter loads
• Normatec compression recovery to reduce swelling and improve circulation
• Higher-level functional training to restore control and confidence under demand

Progress isn’t always linear but consistency and the right plan matter. He put in the work, trusted the process, and finished strong.

Proud of this one. Big congratulations on graduating from Jones Physical therapy. 💪

Let’s talk Dry Needling again!

As our JPT family has grown, we’ve realized that many people in the community still aren’t quite sure what dry needling is or how it can help. So we wanted to share this again for those who may be seeing it for the first time.

Dry needling is a skilled technique used by physical therapists to reduce muscle tension, improve mobility, and relieve pain by targeting tight or irritated muscles. It’s often especially helpful for neck pain, back pain, headaches, and stubborn muscle tightness. We have even had great success using dry needling to reduce TMJ pain and improve TMJ function!

If you’ve ever been curious about dry needling or wondered if it might be right for you, this is a great place to start. We are here to answer any questions you may have! 💪

Have you had great results at our clinic with dry needling? Drop your success story below!

🎓 Graduation Day Highlight 🎓

Supposedly only real men cross their arms when taking graduation pics…

This young man came to us after being forced to step away from sports due to significant knee symptoms. Walking alone caused a loud, uncomfortable popping sensation and often described as feeling like a rubber band snapping inside the knee, along with pain and altered movement patterns.

He had previously been evaluated and given a diagnosis of patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFS), a common and broadly defined condition that often serves as a starting point for care. From there, he was referred for physical therapy.

At Jones Physical Therapy, we began with a detailed, movement-based evaluation. Rather than treating the knee as a generic pain presentation, we looked closely at why the popping was occurring and which tissues were driving the symptoms. That assessment led us to identify a specific flexibility and muscle length issue that was altering mechanics and creating the audible popping and pain.

Treatment focused on targeted mobility work, restoring proper muscle length, and retraining movement patterns, not just strengthening or symptom management alone. The patient stayed consistent, did the work, and the changes compounded over time.

The result:
✅ Full resolution of popping with walking
✅ Normalized gait pattern
✅ Return to daily activities and sports without pain

This case is a great example of why individualized assessment matters. Many knee conditions present similarly on the surface, but the underlying drivers can be very different. When those drivers are addressed correctly, outcomes can change dramatically, sometimes helping patients avoid more invasive options that may not be necessary.

Huge congratulations to this patient on graduating from physical therapy. We’re proud of the work he put in and excited to see him back doing what he loves.
