It’s been a year since I traded two wheels for three. I didn’t do it because I wanted to, I did it because it was time. Injuries and my height made the call for me, and I figured I’d miss riding two wheels like hell. Truth is, I don’t miss it as much as I thought. I still get my wind therapy, still feel the road, and I don’t have to worry about dumping the bike at a stop or fighting bad pavement. I know plenty of riders wouldn’t be caught dead on three wheels, but I wasn’t ready to hang it up. I’ll take three wheels over no wheels and keep that connection to the world a little longer.

I’m doing another toy run this weekend, which will be my second one in a week. The first was Jumbo’s Memorial Toy Run 2.0. If I remember right, there were 217 cars and bikes. The ride wasn’t very long, but it was the most bikes I’ve ever ridden with. Tomorrow is the Shiners Toy Run, and it’ll be my first time joining that one. I’ve heard it’s not as organized as Jumbo’s, so the roads won’t be blocked to keep all the bikes together.

Over the weekend, I went on a toy run, and when I got home, my neck started to hurt for no clear reason. To help with the pain, I did a few neck and upper back exercises that I often suggest for neck pain: Chin Tuck, Scapular Retractions, and Cervical Extensor Isometrics. These exercises also work well for improving forward head posture.

3 easy exercises you can do to help your forward head posture: 1) Chin Tucks 2) Scapular Retractions and 3) Cervical Extensor Isometrics. Another option is laying over a cervical pillow.
General Rule of Thumb is if it hurts don’t do it.

Why is head position important while riding?
There are a couple of reasons. 1) neck strain and 2)shock absorption
Think about it: the head weighs between 10-12 lbs, a helmet weighs between 2.5- 45 lbs, and each inch forward causes about 10lbs. Then take into account that you have modified your shock absorption abilities; no wonder neck strains/pain are common injuries.
