Happy Monday morning
My office hours are changing as people begin to come out of Covid hibernation.
I do simply rent office space, so the clinic hours are not totally under my control. The following are my hours as of Monday June, 15th.
Monday 9:30 - 5:00
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9:30 - 2:00
Thursday closed
Based upon patient needs, I will continue to expand my hours.
This week, it appears we will be getting a taste of summer weather. I have already seen a number of people, this spring, with sunburns. The sun is great, but in a protected moderation.
Our skin has the amazing ability to convert sunlight into the very important Vitamin ‘D’. Lower intensity sunrays, for 20 minutes, on as much exposed skin as possible will give a full dose of Vitamin D for the day. We really need Vitamin D for our hormones, our immune system and many other areas of our bodies. But obviously, too much sun is not a good thing.
We do love to protect ourselves by slathering our bodies in sunscreen. Good idea, but mostly a bad practice. This is because most sunscreens are a concoction of toxic chemicals. Some studies have indicated the sunscreens themselves can lead to skin cancers because of their ingredient list. Another fact is that any sunscreen with an SPF protection over 50 has absolutely no additional benefits.
The following is a list of major ingredients to look for and AVOID in sunscreens:
Oxybenzone, sometimes called benzophenone.
This disrupts hormones, toxifies organs and can cause allergic skin reactions
Octinoxate.
Disrupts hormones, Can pass through breast milk and damages coral reefs
Homosalate.
Disrupts hormones, Opens your skin to absorb other toxic chemicals
Parabens ( Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben)
Used as preservative and associated with breast cancer and reproductive health
It is important to use an organic cream without chemical additives. Look around and try different products to find one you like. I personally use sunscreen from the Melaleuca company. It is free of toxic chemicals, spreads nicely and has worked well for myself and my family.
Have a great week...get outside and live again !!!
