✨ Staff Spotlight ✨

Meet Briana Sheets, OTD, OTR/L! 👋

Briana has a special passion for sensory regulation and understanding how movement impacts the brain. She especially loves working with children in the preschool through early elementary years!

💛 Her favorite part of the job?
Working with kids and watching their growth over time—she fully admits she “geeks out” about it, and honestly, we love that about her!

🌱 Why she chose OT:
Briana fell in love with working with individuals with special needs back in 4th grade while volunteering in a special education classroom—and the rest is history.

🧠 One thing she wishes every parent knew:
Scissor skills matter! ✂️ Early exposure to using scissors helps build important foundational skills for development.

✨ Favorite regulation strategy:
Deep pressure! Whether it’s weighted animals, cozy blankets, or a tight “blanket burrito,” she loves helping kids find calm and comfort through these supports.

💫 Fun fact:
She has a twin sister!

💬 Favorite quote:
“Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.”

We’re so lucky to have Briana on our team 💛

It's time for OT @ Home!

Today's reminder? Heavy work = calm bodies 💪

Looking for an easy way to help your child regulate their body and get some energy out—without anything fancy? Try this simple activity using something you already have at home!

What to do:
Have your child push or pull a loaded laundry basket across the floor (add books, towels, or toys for weight). You can turn it into a game by creating a “delivery route” around the house!

Why it works:
This activity provides proprioceptive input (a fancy way of saying “heavy work”), which can help kids feel more organized, calm, and focused.

Great for:
✔️ After school energy bursts
✔️ Before homework
✔️ Anytime your child seems “all over the place"

Parenting hack- pushing a sibling or cousin in something counts, too! Pushing them does not ❌😅

Occupational Therapy can help with... Picky Eating 🍽️

Picky eating can show up for lots of reasons—sensory sensitivities, oral motor challenges, anxiety around new foods, or even past negative experiences at the table.

That’s where OT can help 🤍

We work on:
• Tolerating new foods (even just being near them at first!)
• Exploring textures, smells, and tastes in a low-pressure way
• Building oral motor skills for chewing and swallowing
• Supporting regulation so mealtimes feel calmer and more predictable

Because progress doesn’t start with a bite—it starts with feeling safe.

If your child struggles with eating, there’s support—and it doesn’t have to be a battle every night.
