Summer has arrived and so has the heat!
It’s important to know that during these temperatures the best place for your pet is at home and not outside or in the car! Your pet can get overheated and ill just like we can. They can also burn the bottom of their paws on pavement when walked outside during the heat of the day!

Hyperthermia (Heat Stroke) is an emergency and should not be ignored. A dog or cat’s normal body temperature is around 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit, and a body temperature over 105 is a true emergency. Symptoms of heat stroke are excessively panting, restlessness, heavy drooling, and unsteadiness while standing/moving.

Burnt paws are also an emergency and should be addressed as soon as possible. Symptoms include limping, licking at paws, and red, inflamed, and blistered paws. Walking your dog early in the morning or later when the sun is setting is best during hot temperatures.

If you have a pet or suspect a pet may be showing symptoms of heat stroke or have burnt paws, please contact your local emergency veterinary hospital.

In observation of Independence Day, we are closed today. We will resume normal hours tomorrow, July 5th, 8am-2pm.

It has begun, grass seed season! Now is the time to check your pet's paws & ears after playing outside in grasses. Grass seeds (or commonly known as foxtails) are spiked seed clusters found on some w**d plants, home grasses, and wild grasses. Foxtails can enter the body and migrate into tissues, causing abscesses and infections; with the most common areas being between paw pads in the paws and in the ears.
If you suspect your pet has gotten a grass seed stuck somewhere, do not hesitate to call!
